Does this mean that the turkey won ?? Certainly the cat is making out like a bandit... I thought the 2007 stall speed would be interesting, at least. Must be that the Nissan 4-bangers have a higher stall the the V6, I guess. Kinda makes sense.

I'm taking the Shark to my guy's shop tonight, for another transmission transplant. (4th or 5th, I think - maybe more). New driver's side axle, alt and steering belts, case of Amsoil SuperShift fluid, and speed sensor, will be delivered tomorrow morning. I'll collect the old pallet, old transmission, old driver's axle (VLSD), and plan on locking that diffy before sending back to IPT for "freshening". (massive overhaul)
Watched OKC Street Outlaws on Discovery last night. Our old buddy Big Chief looks the same as when he was on Pinks. Those guts are serious street racers - wow. Seeing the Murder Nova (1800 turbo HP) made me think - if I painted my Shark in flat-black primer, could I call it the Murder Maxima? Na - that would have to be earned, and no way will my car ever run in the 8's in the quarter. On the street...

Heck of a show, right? Those are some very serious drag cars - and truck - but there is some fake touches, like having a string of LEDs in the driver's windows and other places you would not expect. I'm sure some of it is for the show, and maybe LEDs under the car would help find it if it flipped over in the dark... AND, they really don't like imports, but the GTR that was raced did pretty well against a pure race car.
I delivered my Maxima to my guy's shop last night and took the rest of the parts there this morning, so now it begins.

Just checking in - temps have been in the singe-digits lately, so not much progress made with any project. It's just too d*mn cold. Looks like this weather will continue for a week or so. You know it's cold when a warm-up means that the temp is now two digits. Brrrr...

Went down to the shop today, to check on the Shark. It was up on a rack, with the transmission installed but not the axles. When the weather went frigid, the shop concentrated on getting people's cars running again. My guy knows that I'm not going to be driving the Shark in this weather, so helping people was the mission for his shop.
I told him I didn't need the car until April, so I'll check back next week - his estimate of when it might be ready to roll.

Actually I felt the same way - I WANT TO DRIVE IT ! - but with temps suddendly dropping into single digits and cars dying everywhere, they needed their cars to get around. I have my tow truck for groceries and honey mead (yum). Patience... temps are going above freezing once in a while.
You ever tried honey mead? It's like a wine only made from bee honey, and there seems to be a fair number of bottlers out there. Really smooth....
Oh, the tow truck is a 4.0 Frontier 4WD w/5spd auto, and it stalls up to 2300-2400. Is this a trend with Nissan now? It's been a while but I kinda remember my 99 stalling around 1200 revs...

Been lurking and keeping an eye on your updates. Nothing really to add except I love mead. I've got two batches brewing currently. One is a traditional dry mead and the other is an orange melomel. I drink a few meads from b.nektor meadery from time to time. Sorry if I just derailed the thread keep us updated and good luck.

No prob - so you brew your own? That's impressive - how much do you brew "for yourself" ? and is it a complicated process? I just got involved with it because of a gift bottle from a Colorado meadery, and found a local brand being made about 20 miles away. " Fat Friars " - hmmm, sounds like chicken. My wife thinks it tastes like cough medicine.
I derail easily.

I only brew 1 gallon batches and its incredibly easy. The hard part is waiting for it to finish. I can pm you some recipes I've used. I found some 1 gallon glass jugs at a local flea market. Bought everything else at a brew shop. You could buy a $40-50 mr. Beer kit and use it. The expensive part is the honey.
I understand that the track in Tulsa is sponsored heavily by the local casino, and that same casino is expanding with construction in several areas, and one of them will be labeled Land Shark. I happen to know one of the engineers involved with this expansion, so I'm pretty sure it's true. I can get more details when she comes home for Xmas this year - maybe I can get a free track pass from the casino? So much fun... so little time..

"honey mead?" , I've never heard of it. I'm not much into wine, but if I come across it I might give it a taste.
4.0 in the Frontier you say?....... hmmmm.... As far as the stall rpm's go, both my old 95' Max and the current 99' I30 go up to 2500
Very last run of 2013
I had a bye run in the semi-finals of pro tree open competition.

I hear ya, it's been below freezing here in upstate NY for a few days now. We might hit 32* in about 8 days or so...

Yup, the '12 Frontier is a 4.0L V6 4WD 261 HP 5 spd automatic trailer/car pulling fool. Gobs of torque. Will we see clouds of smoke off your front tires next year?
Your I30 sounds pretty good out there - shifts seemed fast and solid. I loves the sounds and smells of dragstrip in the evening. I'm getting itchy to get my car back. There will be smoke on the water, fire in the sky.

That's two of us - and ABIGBRAIN, since he's the guy that talked me into the short-gear Altima tranny. If all the parts will work together for a change, then this hooptie might actually run pretty well - we shall see. I still have a couple of full N2O bottles so maybe I can test under power. Of course the roads now have sand and salt scattered around here and there, so extreme caution is required out there. Wouldn't be the first time the car slid around on the highway at over 100MPH, either.
It's probably pointless to do a chassis dyno now, although a 4th gear pull might be useful.
I can get back to the Haltech project, figuring out where the trigger wheel needs to mount on the pulley and what exactly is required from a cam sensor to work with the Haltech. I "think" that the factory Hall cam sensor is OK but the ends of the cams have too many slots for a clean trigger, so I'm going to need to go to a real Haltech tuner to be sure. I betcha some work will need to be done on the back of a cam - a spacer with a single slot, maybe.
The last transmission goes back to IPT for a re-build, after I MIG-weld up that differential. That still leaves me with another 2001 VLSD tranny fresh from a yard in Wichita that I was going to use until the Altima idea came around. One of these might do for the Texas Mile next year.
"it's always something"

One will be a rebuilt IPT transmission with a locked diffy (the one being swapped out now) and the other is still stock, so which one to use? Using the present nitrous jetting, (75-shot + 150-shot) and unknown NA WHP, maybe 500-550 WHP? Probably the IPT Maxima transmission....

Tranny is installed !
I picked up the Shark tonight - $900 for everything - and drove it home. I had the stock TCU connected before I delivered the car, and it shifts very well indeed now. Now I only drove it home in rush hour street traffic, but the lower final drive gear is very obvious. The shop checked the speed calibration up to 50 MPH and it was OK. They installed the speed sensor from the previous transmission. The NAPA driver's side axle went right in - no problem. They also replaced a bad boot on the right side axle, replaced the OEM oil sensor that was weeping oil, replaced the two belts and generally did another fine job for me.
The downside of the welded differential and those big DRs on the front wheels is that turning a short corner at low speed is - exciting - because the car really wants to go whatever direction the tires are aimed. Much more than a VLSD diffy feels. The car also pulls to the left a bit, and will need alignment - no big deal.
I couldn't take it out tonight because the wife and I had something planned. I'll probably drive it to work this week and see what it's got - after I re-connect the ShiftFast_3 controller to the Altima transmission. That will be a real test, and should be fun. This transmission feels good so far.

To get the shorter final drive ratio (4.4) I used a 2006 (2005-2006 same) 2.5 Altima 4AT RE4F04A transmission (89K for $350), with a professionally welded differential and a Maxima bell housing which exactly replaces the Altima bellhousing, sent it to IPT for a race build, then returned to my guy's shop when it was installed with a new NAPA driver's-side axle and the speed gear from the busted VLSD transmission was installed.
Whew - it worked. And of course the conversion would be much faster and cheaper it you didn't have the transmission race-built. Differential welding optional, as well.
Cliff Notes: Get 2005-2006 2.5 Altima 4AT transmission, swap out bellhousing for Maxima, install old speed gear, maybe install a new $100 driver's side axle if old one was VLSD. This will change the final drive ration from 3.8 to 4.4 - good for climbing hills.

Yup - but I really need to get the alignment fixed. Hands-off driving pulls to the left. I can hold it, but it needs to be fixed. On the other hand, the Altima transmission shifts very precisely, and if throttle is applied, spins the DRs on each shift -dunno about 3-4 shift - never got that fast last night. Soon.
This idea seems to be working as we hoped it would.

Went for a drive last night
Traffic is still crazy, but I went out to my "race track" last night. Just getting the car out of the driveway was exciting. With the combination of locked diffy and huge super-sticky DRs on the front, it's really a challenge to back up and turn a corner. I could actually kinda wedge myself into a "corner" when backing, so that I had to go forward then back with a shallower turn. Turning street corners can also be difficult with those tires, and I had to remember to keep both hands on the wheel at slower speeds. I expected these problems, but not as bad as I had last night.
I have OEM calipers, Hawk HPS pads and Brembo rotors on the car, and with any previous tire, I could go down the highway at 80 MPH and still use the brakes to lock up the tires - even the 255-16 BFG G-Force radials or the BFG DRs I have used. With the M/T ET Street Radials, I can't lock them up at all. Really sticky tires on any surface I've driven on. The car stops very quickly, but the wheels never lock up.
I left the new transmission connected to the stock TCU, so light throttle shifts happen at the usual speeds, but the shifts are very definite " BAM ! ", just like the last IPT transmission used to be. When starting from a rest and going WOT through the gears, It doesn't take long to go thru the gears. I found I can't do that and watch the speedometer, so after the next winter storm blows through this weekend, maybe I can get in some highway driving after I re-connect the ShiftFast3 unit. I also need to be sure the TC lock is connected - I think it's not at the moment.
I'm concerned about the lower control arms being twisted when making any turns. The JClawbars hold the arms in place, but chances are good that the bushings are squished out by now. The car definitely needs an alignment anyways, so I think replacing control arms is a Good Idea as well. I will probably put a pair of BFGs back on the front so I can turn corners a little safer for normal driving.
The transmission seems to perform as designed. The M/T DRs perform as designed. Put the two together, and turning corners is - exciting... So now I need to modify the suspension to cope with this problem. Not surprised "It's always something"

Yeah, maybe I should move to Dallas - there's lots of tracks there. Hmmmm.... Of course the summer temps are kinda extreme, and not gonna race in 100+ *F temps, so that's out.
Hawaii - that's it! It's always 70-80*F there. I really like Maui. There's a track there, and on Kauai too.

In Chandler, Firebird closed in March, now there are new owners that are renovating the track. It is set to reopen under Wild Horse Pass Motorsports park at the end of January.
My favorite track, Speedworld out in Wittman is closed permanently

Well, it's nice to know that someone has it worse than you do.... .. So if you need a break from the Canadian cold, maybe a short visit to Oklahoma City. I think you would fit right in with these guys. They loves their nitrous.
