Where in the heck can i run my 4 gauge power wire? :(

I just got my brand new (to me) 2002 maxima se 6 speed today. i went to go install my power wire, and i spent two hours getting upset. i look under my dash and i see a small hole with light, but i have no idea where it goes. i stuck a rod up there so i could locate it on the other side, but that didn't work.

i hate doing this on any car, and i really hate drilling a hole in my cars. what has everyone else done on this board to run a power wire? it is starting to get dark outside soon, so please post asap. thank you very much

also, please provide pictures if you can!!! thanks!

but i only have a 10g wire...you have a 4ga?? how many watts is your system?? ohh..and if your thinkin about running rca/power and all that jazz, i just did that today. I went on the left side, and put em all side by side to the wires under the carpet...i have pics of that if you want to see

Hey, thanks for the reply.

i was getting frustrated, so i asked my brother, and he showed me the perfect place to do it. i had to take off my wheel, and also the black guard behind it, and run the wire there. it is the perfect spot, and completly water proof. no drilling of holes, and it is very easy.

i am running a 1100 watt system. 3 amps, 2 subs, and 6 speakers.

now i have another problem... but i wam going to make another thread about that one.... it is very specific, so i need it to be on it's own page.

but thank you for your help!

Can you give more details? I am thinking about adding an amp & sub in the trunk of my 2001 Max. How do you run the power wire from the trunk to the front without drilling any hole? Any pictures? Thanks.

as for providing pictures, i can't. i lost my freakin digi cam, which really upsets me because i just got it not too long ago, and i paid freakin $400 for it. *sigh* sorry for the vent...

but anyway, i will try to explain it as best as i can w/o pic's but it is rather hard to do.

first, take off your front drivers side wheel.

then take off the black lining behind the wheel.. there are clips holding it on, that if you try to turn them, they will turn forever... you need to use a flathead screew driver and pop them out carefuly. then pry the black plastic lining back towards the car. (you will also need to take off the body colored "mud flap" that is held on by 2 screews in front, and one underneath it.)

now you will see two things, one huge wire going into a 4-5 inch rubber grommet, and the hood release latch. we need to make a cross cut in the rubber gromet that is big enough to fit your power wire through. make sure to use a sharp knife/blade, and also not to hit the wires behind the gromet when cutting.

now pop the hood. look for a hole that is approx. 2 inches wide, that is close to the driver side strut tower. place your power wire through the hole and it should come out through the fender. and run the wire through the rubber grommet that we just made a splice in.

now go under the dash, and remove some of the carpet and padding on the driver side. look up, and you will see your power wire. just feed it though, and you are done!

this took me like a total of 30mins to do.

hope this helps!

In my 97, I JUST installed a completely new system and I ran my 4ga. power wire through a pre-drilled hole that is plugged with a grommet beside the brake master cylinder on the firewall. worked great!!!

from my personal experiance, 4thgens differ from 5th gens... especialy if you have a manual tranny. if you have a automatic, installs are a breeze.... but for manuals they really stink. also depending on who owned your car before you, and what they did to it, you may have holes made for already.
either way... good stuff.

I have always done things Blkmax95c's method. Works for auto and manual; minimal chance of water issues. Excellent for anything up to 0ga. The only thing I do differently is if I'm running 10ga, I take a metal wire hanger, undo it and straighten it out. Then I tape the power cable 1" from the end of the hanger end. And finally, I feed the baby through the grommet. This punctures a perfectly sized hole and guides the cable through to the cabin for easy location and pulling.

Good luck and great writeup!

It's a factory pre-drilled hole...I can send pics to those that are interested.

I just drilled a hole on the firewall and ran my 4 gauge through there. Then from there it goes behind the kick panel, and tucked underneath that plastic piece near the front and rear doors, under the rear seat cushion and finally into my trunk. Can't see or feel the wire

I took a look under the driver side and found a sort of diamond shaped chunk of carpet that you can take out. I drilled a hole through that part of the firewall, put in a grommet, ran 4ga wire and put the carpet piece back in. Presto can't see the wire at all. I also have my foglight wire running through that same area of the firewall. After 4 years I have had no noise issues or any other issues for that matter.
