MEVI or some Aftermarket VI on a 5th gen??
MEVI or some Aftermarket VI on a 5th gen??
Took a looksy at my VI on my 01...and its broken, like most 5th gens with some mileage on them. Havent done the fix yet, waiting to see if maybe theres a more permanent fix out there than the JB weld fix. Until then, how impossible is it to use MEVI or some other VI on the 00-01 5th gen?? I know there was a 4th gen that used the 00-01 VI so how bout the reverse, an 00-01 using MEVI like most of the 4th geners?? Just pondering some new thoughts....anyone tried it??
mingo, because we ASSumed it wouldn't fit, then someone tried it and we are all
now.
You have 4 options, some realistic, some not.
1) Fix it using JB weld fix
2) Take out the powervalve, not easy.
3) Get a new 00-01 IM and put it on, direct bolt on
4) Custom fabricte a MEVI on there
Another option .. Search
Th 00Vi is better than a MEVI, dyno proven, but it's not a direct bolt on from a 5-4g, or vice versa.

now i have another question, will the vq35 manifold fit on 2k maximas? because i knwo that the fourth and 00-01 maximas have the same part numbers for the heads, but the 02+ has a different part number for the heads..

....Ok, I know, I'll answer it myself: the 3.5 top ends are designed to allow more air flow due to the higher displacement engine.
I have not read about anyones 00vi breaking after the JB Weld fix. I do not browse hte 5th gen forums as much as I do the 4th gens, but I have yet to see one one break after the JB Weld.
I did the JB Weld fix to my manifold even though it was 100% perfect.

i think it's either you get one that has plenty of problems or u don't. it's real inconsistant. i hear alot of 5.5gens having random issues too, some do some don't
The 3.5 heads have a different Lower IM pattern. So this is pretty much a no.
Installing a MEVI would be stupid. NO.
JB Weld is easy, cheap, and will last forever if you do it right. Put the spring in the JB weld. let it sit overnight, and you will have not problems.
BTW There is no such thing as an aftermarket Variable Intake manifold. Every aftermarket IM I have seen is single runner. It takes too much research to get one right. Not only that but maximas at this point have no aftermarket IMs available. All of them are OEM, The 4th gen USIM, MEVI, 00VI or -k, and the 02-03.
