Monster Cable Grounding Kit....Because I Was Bored

They say idle hands are the devils playground, well this is the outcome.

Left over 4 gauge monster cable from my audio install, 4 gauge ring terminals with 3/8" eyelets, and shrink wrap insulation bought at Harbor Freight. Took the wire measurements from the Active Tuning website and Voila!!! Spent <$10 on supplies, FTMFW!!!

i need to do this bad! i know my car is poorly/undergrounded. I am kind of busy/lazy and i was thinking about buying a kit off of here but this might just inspire me to do it myself. What locations are you grounding to and how much wire do i need to pick up?

You will need at least 6.5ft. of cable: 15",26",20",and 12". Measurements are for 6th gens.

Installation instructions are here:

it helps quite a bit with voltage drop issues if you're running a large amount of power to your audio setups. it helped with mine.

as for engine performances...i didn't see any improvements

Hey Gollum, are any of them stretched tight at those lengths?

Would an extra inch or so on each be helpful for tucking?

I did the same, but I used 0/1 gauge. Ive got yellow top optima and my system still dims nasty. Only thing left is a higher amperage alternator.

I haven't installed em' yet and I hope each is long enough. I did cut the wires a bit longer than the stated lengths.

i think i used the same measurements years ago... i suggest making the one from the battery across the intake to the fender a bit longer... if your intake is still stock at least. My new battery's posts are a lil off and made it even tighter.

I have the F5; I'll lengthen it a little...

Thanks Nismo.

Gollum, did you find the ring terminals at Harbor Freight?

i got all my materials off egay, wish i woulda thought about HF. maybe i'll check them out since the stock battery bled acid all over and into some of my ground wires FTL. neutralized what i could but still not great.

of course that will be a spring consideration since the garage is blocked with 8 feet of plowed snow

Did (do) you notice anything with your kit?

The stillen kit is quite a bit different.

Looks like a few of the wires mount to the - terminal.

http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...N&model=MAXIMA

Id rather not waste alot of time making these for little to no change...

Ya, looks like they have two sizes for the ring terminals. I know I'm gonna have problems connecting one of my cables to my battery terminals. It looks like I don't have enough room to connect it to the + post because of the other two wires (battery and audio cable)

If you can't find the ring terminals at HF, you can always try Best Buy, Radio Shack (both more expensive than HF), Home Depot,Lowes, and ebay

Nothing taps into the + bro...

I ended up making and installing mine today.

I used 4g JL Audio flex cable, found the ends in a hardware store and bought (used then returned) heat shrink at Harbor Freight.

I mounted 2 of them in different locations than the link above; the trans mount and the drivers strut plate.

Call me crazy but I can tell a few differences.

Just starting the car seemed completely different. Sound and feel.

I also noticed a somewhat different throttle feel. May have added some pep.

Overall, an easy DIY mod I would recommend. I'll report back after I drive a little more.

One thing I did do was dremmel the paint away on ALL the connections. Not just the one in the instructions.

i couldnt find the ends at harbor freight but got them at the audio store where i got the wiring. I also got my heat shrink ah HF. Only installed one of the 4 (battery to chasis) since i was short on time but so far i notice less slowing of the blower fan at idle

Is this for another Max KC? I like the set you made. I wish my cables are silver like yours. The red ruins the color scheme in the engine bay, sticks out like a terd in a punch bowl

No, it's for my Pathfinder...

I drove the car some more today.

The throttle response is noticeably different, the idle has changed and start up sounds amazing.

Im generally a "hard sell" kinda guy but Im really glad you made this thread.

Hurry up and install yours now.

Are we twins?? cuz I have a truck also (Xterra). I installed mine Mon. and that's why I was complaining about the red. You are right about the start up and the throtle response, definitely quicker. I also notice that my windows seems to roll up and down and bit faster too.

My original intentions was just to make the wires just for the hell of it. I did not know if it would work or not.
I would also like to ground my truck. I saw the Stillen kits, $90??? hellz no! All I need to know are the cable lengths and I should be good to go.

I've emailed AT with no response yet.

Stillen dosen't make a kit for Frontiers/Pathfinders anymore due to a voltage regulator, but do make a kit for the Titan/Armada. I read that that kit should work fine in my truck I just have to leave the main wire off of the - batt. terminal.

What motor do you have btw?

I drove the max some more today... Holy ****, im glad I did this.

Im pulling 23 MPG in the city now, my subs sound amazing, start up, idle and throttle response is alot different.

Did you notice the smoother shifting in yours as well?

My truck is an 03 Xterra SE V6 The Max is an 08 SE

That increase in milage is huge, unfortunately I loss my driver information display when I installed my radio. Everything you mention has improve with my car also. I haven't really payed attention to my audio. My subs have always hit hard and tight (2 Boston Acoustics G5 10") You got me curious about my gas milage. I guess I have to buy the axxess nird:

Cool. I still have to do mine, already bought all of the parts; mostly from Ebay and leftover from other electrical projects I've done.
