Question Low Beam Headlight LED Kit

Hey Guys

For anyone who switched out their halogen low beam headlights for LED's. Can you attach a link to the ones you chose. I would appreciate pictures also. Also if someone could explain how they got to the low beams through the wheel well.

Thanks in advance

Anyone else chime in on this? I'm torn apart, I wanted the SL but not having LED bulbs is deal breaker for me, what's the bulb size? Also, to any & all that have successfully done the swap, how's the output on thr stock projectors w a drop in HID/LED kit?

Bulb size is H11, I haven't done the swap yet, but I have an HID kit ready from my old car whenever I have time.

From what I'm hearing, these are the way to go for dropping in an LED kit. http://opt-7.com/opt7-fluxbeam-led-headlight/

Recently found out that the SL doesn't come w led low's & that's basically a deal breaker for me. Can't afford to go back to halogen coming from a 2013 VW CC Bi-Xenon factory set up. The dealer could put me in an SL for a reasonable price but I'm hesitant. Thinking of whether or not a led drop-in kit would give me issues w dealer for warranty work just gives me a headache. SR & Platinum price range for lease are just way too high....pretty bummed right now...we'll see

In my personal opinion, hid's from trs would be the way to go. I purchased and installed the SNGL 5k led headlights (link below) and have only kept them since I have the diode dynamics 5k xml2 led fogs - as the fogs illuminate farther and wider than the headlights themselves. It is dangerous to drive with only the headlights on as the cutoff is insufficient. Although the beam pattern is level, there are no hotspots so the intensity and throw do not match the stock halogens. I purchased them to have all forward lighting match the daytime running lights without manipulating the extra wiring of hid's as these were plug and play - not that they were any cheaper. When and if the LED's fail, I will make the switch to the morimoto kit. Pretty sure that the stock halogens in my SL outperform the LED's in every aspect except the color. My vehicle is shown on dd website customer images for reference. This is a duplicate of multiple headlight threads, but hope this information helps.

For those of you guys that have upgraded to LED headlights, do we need to purchase the decoder as well?

Not if the output wattage is the same as stock. Refer to the user manual for the wattage of each bulb. Typically only small bulbs like turn signals and parking lights have significantly less draw and require a resistor.

For anyone interested I bought and installed the OPT7 H11s. They were OK but as pointed out in some of the reviews the down road throw is a little weak. So I ordered these from The Retrofit Source (TRS)
https://www.theretrofitsource.com/le...o-2stroke.html. Significant improvement in overall brightness and more importantly down road throw is much improved. OPT7s and Morimoto 2Stroke are the same price $100. For the money the Morimoto 2Stroke are much better and worth trying if your looking to go LED. Can't compare to HID or the OEM LEDs on the Platium as I haven't seen either but more than satisfactory as far as I'm concerned. The warranty on the Morimoto site is 18 months. TRS warranty is 3 years. We will see if they hold up.

Can you tell me if they are white, blue in color? Are they 5k, 6k, or other brightness?

They are white. 6000K. Not a perfect match to the DRLs but close. The OPT7s are rated at 3500lm per bulb. The 2Strokes are rated at 5000lm per bulb.

Thanks for your post. I am about ready to make the same move on my SL and I would like to know this first: Would you say that the throw of the TRS system is equal to or superior to the original halogens? You compared it to the OPT7 and mentioned that it was significantly better... do you think that it also applies to the halogens?

Thnks again.

I would say the down road throw at least equals the halogens maybe a little better. Definitely brighter.

Just to add to jjohn's comment, stock halogens only have about 1350 lumens. The 2strokes' real-lumen output is about 3 times that. I have the 2strokes and i love them.

Yes, I know, but LED's need to be more powerful because they don't reach as far as halogens. They are super bright, sometimes even blinding bright, but don't reach as far as a good halogen bulb.

But you and jjohn1777 convinced me that they are a great buy so I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for all the info.

You are right on the money. The bulb blocks the light inside the projector causing a dark spot, a lot of output is lost with the led and that is the real deal leds. get a true hid system instead. My source is vanquishauto.com for the hid systems, we do more retrofits than anything.
