1994 maxima gxe. my only remote fob is dying, literally falling apart. any recommended replacements. can't find a replacement that looks exactly like mine.

 

Any pics. I've never seen a 3rd gen with remote fob unless it was installed aftermarket?

 

I agree with AC Max - Nissan did not offer a remote keyfob. My guess is that there is an aftermarket alarm system on the car.

Looking at the pic in the link the 2nd pic looks like it would appear to say pathfinder on it? I suppose anything is possible though I've never heard of any 3rd gen maxima coming with a key fob unless someone Jerry rigged something to make it work with a fob from a pathfinder or something though I'm not sure how'd they program it being the 3rd gen max is pre obd2. I'm a little curious now 🤔 How long have you owned the car? and has the remote always worked? or is it possible you were given an old fob from a pathfinder with the car when you bought it or something?

 

original owner. when i bought the car the remote was a Nissan option. both remotes still work, but one case is broken and the other case is starting to go. my sister in law had the se model and that remote opened the door and trunk. mine only opened the door locks. my remote just says Nissan on it. it was not a 3rd party installed option.

So this actually was an option nissan offered on the later 3rd gens like the 94?

 

I was always told there was no such thing back when I had my 94, but markevans999 says he bought the car new with one and that his sister also had a car with a remote, so...

 

It's a universal Nissan security system. I had a 94 with one installed. Not something they advertise in the brochure, it's a dealer installed item.
