New used purchase-1 key, 1 remote
Hello,
I just bought a 2000 Maxima but it came with only one key and remote. On one side of the key is a blue cap/plug, what is that?
Also will I need a Nissan supplied remote or can an aftermarket remote be programmed to work as a factory one?
Thanks, Richard

The keys have a RFID chip (the blue thing) in them that needs to be programmed to the car's computer. So to have a spare key made, you will need to get it programmed. Of course the dealer can do it, but so can your local locksmith usually a a cheaper price. But call several for quotes, they're not all the same price.
The remotes are easier, you can buy Nissan or after market remotes. You can program the remote to the car yourself and have up to 4 remotes. All you have to do is make sure that the FCC ID on the remote is NHVWBU43 or else it won't work.
