Im attempting to remove my bank one pre cat and gut it like i did the bank 2 pre cat near the radiator. It was replaced with a new one about 100K miles ago and im suspecting its semi clogging again as the car has gotten a tad slower and the floor gets hott sometimes. Being that it was replaced with new bolts and screws they are not too difficult to remove. From the bottom I see three at the y-pipe and i can remove those. Now this is where the question comes in is at the top. Do i need to remove the rear exhaust manifold? kinda difficult as i dont have alot of room. I see 2 bolts at the top of pre cat that i did remove, are there anymore? I put the bolts back in because i was running out of time and it was getting dark.

I would recommend removing the rear engine mount bracket and then removing the manifold.

I have almost every variation of 14mm and I needed most. A flex-head ratchet and an offset box wrench to get the manifold off. Having a good selection of extensions (preferably the ones that are tapered to allow slight misalignment) are nice to get that rear motor mount bracket out.

Mine had only been in for a year and I think I put anti-sieze on everything so they came out favorably. Your mileage may vary

 

Remove the intake plenum.
Remove the heatshield.
Now you can access the top 2 fastners holding the cat to manifold.

 

Yeah i can access those two and remove them, But from the top of the engine, I cant see where the other 2 bolts are. If i can find them from the top then i can remove the pre cat. It would save me some money as one person quoted me $400 to remove and replace it saying it would take 5 hours.

 

From the bottom there are two nuts where the cat meets the manifold. A few extensions will help to reach them.
