SC uninstall AND reinstall - Chapter 2
SC uninstall AND reinstall - Chapter 2
after doing a minor uninstall of the pulleyes and couple bolts from last time. This time, I was able to 1) remove the SC unit 2) remove the plate from the blower 3) reinstall the SC unit.
few random notes
1)fuse box and bolt no. 7 : from Jay25's post, he recommand to leave out bolt no. 7. Mine was still on there, therefore I had to remove the fuse box. I found out it is easier to remove the fuse box by taking off the cover first. Then slide it out with the mounting plate. Kevin bent the fender edge so it was easy to slide it out.
2)Biatch alert : alternator bolt! I didnt move the alternator. But taking out this bolt and putting it back in is really pain in the butt. I didnt follow BlackCat's technique: push away the hose with a stick. I used one hand to push up the hose from the radiator and used the other hand to turn the bolt slowly. After it got threaded, I used my gearwrench to finish the job. I dont want to do this again. I marked the alternator and the plate with sharpies. Just in case I accidentally moved the alternator.
3)Gear wrenches : speaking of them....thousands of thanks to my gf who bought me this set of babies for my Christmas present. This makes the work a lot easier. I mean....A LOT easier.
4)Almost wet my pants when I thought I stripped a 7/32 hex bolt : make sure the hex socket goes ALL THE WAY into the bolt. I almost stripped one and I thought that it is the end of the world. I noticed that I didnt insert the socket to the bottom. Then I stuff the hex hole with a piece of paper towel and push the socket into it. Tap it with a wrench and finally, it worked.
5)May the force be with you - like Chunger highly recommanded - "Save yourself a lot of grief and take it down to a shop with air tools" But I didnt, because Kevin hand-tightened these hex bolts. So I can do this myself too.
I first try to remove them with my Hex Keys. Turn out that they couldnt even turn these bolts a bit. Then I try to use the hex sockets with a 3/8 wrench. Still, either I am too weak or Kevin's arm is on steroid. They still wont move. Then I went out to buy a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter. With bigger wrench, longer handle, they finally came off.
6)Make sure bolts 5 ,7 goes back in and the belt is routed correctly before you put plate back in. - I didnt.....Doh!
whew~ what a weekend. Now....I need to reinstall the pulleyes and hook everything back up. Wish me luck.
Few questions:
1)I torqued the 8mm hex bolts to 25 lb/ft and the 7/32 ones to 15. Is this good??
2)where can I find replacement hex bolts? I visited couple hardware stores and I couldnt find this kind of bolts.
3)how do I check if the belt is running straight?
thx all....I found a lot of old threads very very useful.
