ok I am boosting an experienced engine.

I have started my turbo project. My engine has 150,000 miles on it. Iknow I know! There are alot of miles on this car, but they are all interstate miles and it is in great shape. My question is this. What preventive maintanence can I perform to maximaize my engine life. I use synth oil, change it every 5000 miles, going to every 3000 miles with turbo. Anything else you guys know of that would be wise engine investments?

yeah I know, but damn I put 40K on it just this past year, so I know they are not abused miles. Pretty much I just want to know how to preserve this engine as long as possible. Maybe the best investment would be a spare engine for when this one ceases to be.

Hals first motor had 140K on it when he put his kit on.

Mine has 138K. I know I'm not turbo'd but still it's running strong knock on wood.

Massive new internals would be a good start, at least rip the engine apart and look over everything. See how it looks it may be fine, but it could be close to cracking with some boost, so best bet is to look first.

I gotta say that engine bay looks pretty clean for a 150k mile car..

Thanks alot. I bought the car from my best friend a year ago, he and I are both maticulous about cars, so I know the car has never been through any major abuse. I figure 150,000 miles from late 20's drivers is equal to 50,000 miles from teenage drivers. I honestly think I am just going to start looking for a good engine to build so that I can drop it in when and if this engine goes south.

If he went to all that trouble, he would just as well rebuild it. There are alot of tests he could perform w/o the huge hassle of taking the engine apart.
Compression test
Cylinder leak down test
Oil analysis test
Coolant system pressure test
Full Consult diagnostics
etc
