Turbo kit question

Hello everyone, i just bought BrianV's maxima.
I want to eventually get a turbo kit, but I was curious as to whether or not anyone has run more than 4psi? I have seen one kit available through a member here. How many kits are there right now? Also, has anyone done a piston exchange yet to lower compression for boosting? I am very interested to see what the maxima engine can handle-Thanks

oh this is a fun one! first of, I can say I am currently running 12.5psi daily driven, on a stock engine.. and now that I have everything running right, and not blowing engines, we are about to bump that up even more lord willing.

with that said, here is my advice to others getting turbo etc.. make 10psi your max, basically when you start going over 10psi you are gettin risky if you're car is not running very well (and by this i dont mean its fast when you floor it haha, because I thought my car kicked a, then picked up 90hp in 1/2hour on the dyno just by tuning haha) .. assuming your car is setup properly, tuned and whatnot, I would say you may be able to run 12ish max. Be careful! Anything over 12psi, be extremely careful - it is possible, but basically do not go over 10imo unless you have the resources to fix anything that may go wrong.. (engine!) It is true I have run some very high boost, but I don't like to bragg about that just as I do not like to bragg about having to own 3 engines haha

There are two known kits available right now, mine (www.hlh0501.com) and PFI/Nigel's.

There have been people to lower their compression, but none to receive incredible results that i know of and infact one member had a built engine and blew it and is now returning to stock engines from what I hear... although many people I know have built engines underway.

Hope this post helped clear some stuff up for you? If you have any questions, ask away - best bet is to get me on aol as hlh0501, or email hh@psst.com , check my webpage for more info on my turbo kit.

Thanks for the help.
With the kit you are selling, would I need to add anything to run 10+psi? Have you run the 1/4 since turboing? I know fwd never gives true speed on the 1/4, but I am wondering how much faster the turbo is over the S/C. Thanks

fuel pump (80-90$) will be needed no doubt, and i heavily advise the purchase of injectors and safc!!

As far as 1/4mile, I have not been in quite some time, not since my tuning, clutch, etc... but, on FACTORY CLUTCH, all-season street tires (225's), and I forget how much boost maybe 8? I went 13.2 @ 108, and i can tell you I have since pulled MUCH better times, but none published yet haha... once the tracks reopen and I can bolt on my slicks finally at the track, then, I will shock some people.

Have you put an A/F meter in your tail pipe yet? I have a pretty robust fuel delivery system and am running a little lean at the top at 12.5 psi, mind you I am at over 400 HP. Hope you're still having fun!

compression

to lower your compression, all you would need are low comp pistons and rings right? something like JE or JWT pistons?

I have Ross 9:1 pistons, with the stock connecting rods (supposedly peened), and a stock crank. The whole rotating assymbly has been balanced. I'm currently in the process of pulling the motor out of the car now, then I will swap everything to this block.

Then the turbo...

I have some more pics on my homepage...

I'd crotch rocket, if I had to choose... Nothing compares to doing 0-60 in less than five seconds on two wheels...
