If you could reprogram the ECU on your blown VQ30....

... what would you do?

I posted a semi-similar Q about this in the 5th gen forum (the dealer wants to reprog. my ECU for a new o2 sensor install - more $$$ I am thinking), I'm wondering if there's anything else I can ask 'em to do...

.. anything you guys can think of that a dealership could change for me? Should I mess with it?

I'm wondering if they're just looking for an excuse to drive my car hehe.

Can the dealer program the ECU? I haven't heard of one that can. Odds are when they say "reprogram", they mean re-flash the ROM. I can't imagine a dealer would offer custom ECU's.

I was thinking probably they send the ECU to JWT for you and add on an extra hundred dollars to the price.

By the way, what does it mean to re-flash the ROM?

If your ECU gets screwed up, they can re-load an image of a program (I would assume the stock one) onto it...also knows as flashing.

pull back the timing so you can run more boost... or perhaps just adjust it to a more suitable setting for your boost needs....

Does anyone know the details of programming the ecu? I wonder if this is a project that we could investigate... I just don't know where to start but I'm handy with a soldering iron
