I really like the sound, but sometimes I think it's too quiet. You can hear it a little around 2000rpm, but it really comes alive around 3000rpm. But I always have to turn off/down the music. How does this compare to the HKS, Greddy, and new Blitz BOV's?
Hey Craig, it looks like the lock nut on your BOV adjustment screw is backed most of the way off. Better tighten it before you lose it.

Wow, thanks for telling me that, I would have never caught it. I just tightened it.

The HKS ssbov is loud enough in my opinion... I'm only running 4psi on my turbo max right now and when I let off the gas it sounds great. It doesn't sound like other blow off valves though... instead of just one steady noise, it makes this shuttering/flapping sound (hard to explain the sound) that sounds really good.

The BOV gets louder and louder with the more PSI you run, right? So, how much of a difference between 6 and 8 psi on my supercharger? What if I drop in the 3.125 and bump to 10-11psi? Are we talking a tiny difference or a significant difference here?

Actually, the sound you hear is not good. You're probably getting some compressor surge. You don't want this to continue because what is happening is that some of the compressed air that gets deflected by the throttle plate is not going through the BOV, but back to the compressor. The compressor speed slows down dramatically due to the resistance and so the BOV is not performing as it should. I had this problem for a short period.

I have a TT and at 4psi it flutters. At 7-10 PSI, it's pretty loud, no longer flutters. At 15 psi. It's still loud as shiet.

Good luck on your choice but w/ HKS SSQ it's good to I believe 26 psi or 35 or something like that so getting the SSQ won't really be necessary, Just be sure to get a pull type BOV like HKS, Apex twin chamber. Other's are mostly crap, will leak boost.

Not necessarily true...the SSQV has 2 relief valves and I bet he is getting the flutter under light load/boost. The SSQV is designed differently then most other BOVs out there. It is a pull type with 2 relief valves, where as most others are push type with a single valve (with the ever so painful adjustment screw). The pull design is nice because boost actually seats the valve shut, rather than trying to push it open. This means the BOV is less likely to leak under high boost. Basically, it opens the small primary valve at light throttle and load conditions, and then sequentially (thus the name super sequential BOV) opens the secondary valve for additional relief capacity under high boost and load conditions.

I am willing to bet almost every SSQV owner out there experiences this under light load/boost.

I do not have a turbo/SC maxima, but I do have a DSM running ~20psi. I have experienced nothing but good things with this BOV and would strongly recommend it to others.

Sorry if this is old news, but I thought it may be of help to someone out there.

Brian
