LONG trips w/ boost, safe or not???

Kind of a newbie type of question but I'm pretty hesitant to take my max on long trips with the SC. I've gone ~5 hours on the highway w/ no problems. An oil cooler is probably imperative. I'm assuming long trips shouldn't be an issue especially if you're good at a belt change. Anyone go cross country???

Yeah but with turbo's if your blower goes at least you can still drive. Once our belt shreds we're dead .

When we travel to SoCal, I always bring all the tools needed to do a belt change just in case (bring an extra belt too).

to make it easier....bring a shorter belt instead. if your SC belt shredded, put on the shorter belt on the crank, AC, alternator and tensioner. At least you dont have to run on battery.

that's what I would do, because I know I can't take out the SC in 40 minutes.

I just took a trip to New Orleans, had a good time etc..no problems, except that I was due for an oil change while I was out there. Everything seem to be just fine

That's exactly how I feel, I can't see myself trying to remove the blower on the side of a road. So I assume I can just put on the stock size belt and bypass the blower pulley? Is there anything else I need to know about for any of the other SC parts, like do I have to worry about oil circulating through the blower when its not even put to use (bypassed), can I leave the BOV the way it is? I assume the FMU is fine because it won't turn on without boost. I already know that I have to reset my s-afc to 0 settings. Since I'll be taking the Max on a 4-hour road trip next week, what else should I know about?

someone please reply to this b/c less than a handful of members can change SC belts on the road. Took me 5 hours in a garage. Will using the stock belt work and will oil still circulate through the SC? This could be VERY helpful information.

If your belt shreads, you don't have to remove the blower. Just install a new belt (stock one) without looping it around the blower. It would only take as long as changing the AC/Alternator belt does on a car without the supercharger.

Re: Re: Re: LONG trips w/ boost, safe or not???

someone need to answer this one for me: will the hot oil damage the blower if the blower is not spinning? How does the oil flow in the blower? gravitaional? or driven by force?

you dont need to worry about your BOV. if there is not enough pressure, it is not going to open. correct on FMU.

if you decided to go with a shorter belt as back up, you might need following tools.

screw drivers
10mm scoket
14mm scoket
12inche extension
wrenches

anything else?

No...
Pressure, just like how it goes to the blower now.
Drain is gravitational.
To blower is by force.
