Snapped another belt

At least this one lasted 10 months and 12K miles before going. Did those Kevlar belts ever get made? This is starting to get frustrating. I barely got the car to limp home before the battery died and the car stalled. Also, last time the belt jumped a rib and shredded. This time the belt just snapped clean off, what could have caused this?

well go figure we both had belt issues, we installed our blowers in Feb of 02 your belt shredded in Aug time frame and it lasted quite a while now, I was right about the pulley with rails, now theres another issue. And no it was not belt tension this time is something else. Until you install the new belt you wont be able to figure what happened this time. Take the blower to a shop and have them install the new 3.125 pulley in there for you and then you can go from there for you. I dont have a bench vise, I do how ever have impact tools but for what is no use with out the vise. and you also need to get another bolt from vortech or something to replace the one thats stripped thats holding that 3.33.

so what are you going to do now? you taking it to the shop or are you going to remove the blower and have them remove the pulley only? go with a gator back belt and your going to need some work on that plate therefor your belt wont touch the plate.

Re: Re: Snapped another belt

I'm going to pull the blower myself. You explained a lot to me, so I've got it down pretty much. Just have to go pick up a couple of those wrenches. My friend's shop is going to pull the bolt for me. I can get the new replacement bolt from Vortech? Or is that one of Stillen's parts? I hope Vortech. And I'm not using the 3.125, going with something a little smaller. So my friend's shop is going to do all the necessary machining to get it all to fit.

Where can I get the gator belts? Thanks.

Lots of people use gatorbacks. I have one, and the belt hopped off the pully by a rib, but didn't snap or shread. They're pretty strong.

So where can I get the gatorback? Both belts that snapped on me were the NAPA/Gates belt. BTW, what belt size is used for the 2.87?

I don't know what size belt is needed for a 2.87 so I can't help you there. I think I used a 0406710 (71" 6rib). Just replace the last 3 numbers with the length you had before (XX.X inches).

I got my belt from AutoZone. I assume most places sell them.

Thanks. BTW, anyone know where I can get the hex bolt that holds the pulley onto the blower? Mine is stripped due to the original shop that installed it, idiots.

get a gator back from Autozone, serious, thats who now carries Gatorback. Thats where I got all my belts from. I read lots of good things about them and they dont fray from the center like Gates does.

I think any stores specialized in nuts and bolts might have it...otherwise, you have to order it from stillen. Delio post the part no. in my thread in this forum. I started that thread in January.

mine's stripped too....I use a hex bolt instead.
