Please Read** Need Everyones Help

well if ya recall. i have a problem with my ride.
1996 SE MAXIMA auto
V2 boosted
3.25 pulley
Jeff's VB MOD ( MAX TUNING)
tranny cooler.
and some other toys.

my 2-3 shift the RPMS were jumping, and then the 3rd would kick in.
times i would get stuck in 3rd gear @ a light.freakin car wouldnt move. had to down shift to 1 or turn the car off n back on to pop it back into gear..that happens once in the blue. very odd heh.
well i went to the shop on friday 4-25-03 and had jeff's tranny man go for a spin.
he came to an end of my problem.
my 3rd gear clutch is slipping minor. nuttin huge right now.
but its goin.
so i am stuck , weather to fix the tranny - go auto-bullet proof tranny
rebuild the tranny brand new with everything inside brand spankin new and with a warranty of 2yrs 24k miles.
even re-mod the vb and new solenoids( SP ).

or go 5 speed.

now i see it as a pain in the u know what to go 5speed.
tranny hydro lines pedals this n that blah blah..or yea an ECU.
looking around almost 3g's. and thats with a used tranny.

i can save about almost $1,100 if i go auto-rebuild and tranny built to new .

then to go 5speed - used tranny yet eveything esle new.
i mean feel free to post your thoughts about this issue please. im looking for the most help here.

im an everyday drive to work home hangin out.
i live in nyc.
enough said on traffic wise - potholes - traffic lights

i was leanin to 5speed. but then again i dunno if i can afford it..or see it as an added honor to the car.
then again if i try to sell it.. and something goes wrong..salvage title here i come.

one way to look at it is to figure out how much it would realisticly cost you either way.

If money is a concern, find out what all the options will cost you and make your decision from there.

Personally I'm thinking about a 5-spd swap on a daily basis now, but I keep hitting a brick wall when I remind myself of the amount of parts/labour needed, and that I will be gutting my car to get it done. Potential problems, headaches, etc. It's like doing a S/C install.. you never know what may go wrong and you're always keeping an eye and an ear open for little kinks.

I'm leaning towards swapping my car for a 5spd max and bolting everything back on there.... or just leaving my car as is (custom tranny rebuild will cost me about $600 - high friction clutches/bands/etc... all at a local shop though)...

I did my 5spd swap on my old car for under $1500, and thats with an ultra low milage (9k miles) vlsd tranny, brand new axles, and an ACT clutch... takes 2-3 days to install, depending on your mechanical ablility...

I said the same exact problem when I was auto and sc'd. It would slip on 3rd gear. Also sometimes it would get stuck in 3rd gear at a light and I would have to turn off and on the car for it to get back to 1stgr. Then one morning it blew and I lost all my gears except 2nd. Forget the rebuild. Get a 5spd. You won't regret it. You feel soo much more power with a 5spd sc then auto sc. Remember I'm saying it from experience

And my car only has 40K.. I said forget about the warrenty..

Dont rebuild that auto tranny thats a waste of time and cash. Get a 5 speed conversion in the end it will be cheaper and it will pay for itself.

Get the 5spd. Even if its going to cost you more got 5spd. If you build the auto, it will eventually go out again. Spinning the tires in 1st will help burn up the clutch packs in the auto even faster since you S/C. If you do the auto way, your gonna have to do it again sometime in the future. Just get the 5spd, get an Act clutch and dont worry about your tranny blowing again. The only thing left to protect the manual is your driving technique.

I guess that means you have made your decision. Pay it bit more now or pay alot later. Dont 4get that, it holds true to many things. Call around you local shops and ask around, I dont usually deal with trannys so I cant answer that question. Dont wast your time flushing your ATF to syn, its gonna waste nearly $200 of your cash. If your tranny is slipping now and you flush it, all its gonna do is slip with syn fluid. Just take it easy until you get some extra cash for the swap.

His car has less then 45K on it I think... So his tranny is pretty new..

As for the price.. Well it all depends.. The price now adays for a whole front clip is $1500.... That includes everything you need for the conversion. + $900 for labor for the swap.. Don't waste your $$ on a bulletproof. You'll never get the full potential of your boost with auto..

Well to me there was a big difference.. When I was auto vs stick with boost.. Auto doesn't pull as hard as stick. And with stick its easier to be within your powerband for boost..

sorry to hear that your auto is on its way out. how many miles you have on the car?

I would go for 5spd conversion too....more power, more reliable, more fun~

hlh5051 has a how-to on his website. He listed all necessary parts.
