V1 or V2 supa

WHat is the difference between V1 and V2 supercharger?

Re: V1 or V2 supa

since no one seems to know-- the v-1 has straight gears inside it. this makes it noisy. the v-2 has heli-cut gears(at an angle)so they mesh better. (less noise.) both units for the max are sc trim blowers. this means that the eff. hovers around 3.65-

Also, the V2 produces about 1 psi more boost than the V1 for a given pulley size.

What do you mean by "the eff. hovers around 3.65-" ?

the effiency- when you use vortechs map to calculate pulley size.

Oh, okay, I didn't recognize the 3.65 as a pulley size. But you're right, the center of the efficiency island is at a pressure ratio of 1.47 or so, which translates to a boost pressure of 7 psi - stock pulley size.

What I don't quite understand is the impeller rpm part. According to Vortech's impeller speed calculator, at 6500 rpm with the 3.6" pulley, the impeller speed should be up around 39000 rpm. But if you look at the compressor map, that a 39000 rpm impellor speed should give a pressure ratio of 1.8, or almost 12 psi of boost pressure. So does that mean 5 psi of boost pressure is lost due to friction in the intake piping on the way to the engine? Seems like a lot.

i dont know about the boost drop but the calculations also included the shift point--
3.65x6.5x6800(estimated shift point) then divide by pulley size. from what the tech told me, you want to run at the efficent rpm,s on the s/c. with a 3.6 pulley, the s/c is spinning at 44,814 rps.- obviously more room for a smaller pulley!! the v2 sc trim calculates with 3.65. the s trim is at 3.45-- the s trim delivers the same boost while only spinning at 42358 rpms.

Yes the Maxima kit has substantial boost loss. Internal gearing on the V1 is lower than the V2, so you get more impeller speed from a given pulley on a V2 than a V1. V1's have proven to be more reliable than V2 kits, when stillen re designed them they tried to save money.
