Just got a call from Vortech

Woot!

Class A return!!!
So they gave me $1000 Credit towards a V2.

So now the quesiton is - polished or normal finish?

They also said something about having to turn the blower "snail" section around? Anyone know what they're talking about?

I think I get the idea - but just want to make sure.

Turn the blower snail section around? That doesn't sound like a good thing for your mounting bracket. Hopefully it's not what it sounds like.

I'd go with the normal finish but my engine's dirty I haven't seen a polished MEVI yet. A polished blower along with a polished intake manifold & the bit under the valve cover looks sweet. How much are they asking for the polish? $50-100ish?

Apparently Stillen when they get the blowers unbolt the 5 small allen thumb screws and then "twist" the snail part of the assembly 180 degrees or something like that.

(That's what Vortech tells me I need to do when I get it)

Still deciding on the finish.

I was thinking maybe a polished SC with chromotex ceramic around the SC piping....hadn't even thought about polishing the manifold yet.

I am beed blasting my SC piping in preperation for a new finish. I have never heard of chromotex, what is that? I was just going to powder coat it black or silver. Would the chromotex help with heat?

Also is your turn around from the V1 to V2 going to be 950.00 or less?

The chromotex is ceramic coating with a really nice finish. So basically it's has the fuctionality of exhuast wrap....but doesn't look like crap. I saw some of the different coats and they look pretty nice. iansw has a link of the place that does it. (I can't seem to find it)

Yeah, everything chromed is nice. If you're going to end up with an araffio engine bay, go for it Personally I like the piping powdercoated a nice color, or even black. Chromed piping + polished blower is too much imo. Go for the black & polished.

http://www.performancecoatings.com/headercoatings.html

I like the heat properties of ceramic vs powdercoating, however.

So my choices are Satin or Chromatex.

Thanks for the link it looks like Satin or Chromatex for me, that is exactly what I was looking for!!

Also thank maximase86 for the reply heat reduction is what I am looking for.

Oops - it's called "Chromex".

Well - that's the question I'm trying to solve.

It doesn't help heat leave the SC Piping, it just keeps engine bay heat out.

Still a good thing. They also have a coating however that heps heat dispurse fater. Not sure which would be better.

maximase86 - you going to have time Monday afternoon to maybe take it dowan there for me? I may do it Monday morning, but I'm not sure yet.

When you unbolt the snail to rotate it back, find out what kind of gasket they used.

Hmm...it just spins on it's axis - I didn't want to take it apart so I just spun it without being able to see what was in there.

If you remove the bolts and the retaining tabs the snail just lifts right off. There's nothing tricksy about it.

Oh well. Can you tell if Vortech used a gasket?

Well, after having a leak for over a year you must understand why I don't want to tempt fate.

Doesn't look like they did use a gasket however.

So how much are they asking for the polished blower vs. normal finish?

Sorry if this seems slightly off topic, but chrome isn't the best thing for heat in an engine bay. IIRC, it actually helps to trap/hold heat, which is why plenty of show cars have crome, but the cars that are all go "usually" do not. I don't know if it would make a big difference in your case, but I figured I'd throw this bit of info out there just in case...

Yeah, that's why I don't like chrome under the hood. Another bad thing about chrome is that it is so slippery that it makes it easier for boost hoses to slip off. I just don't agree with sacrificing performance for looks. But polished aluminum is okay, which is what the blower is.
