Put the V1 on, the sound isn't bad enough to wait a long time and pay $850 for a V2, you need boost now

As some of you know I recently got a V1 SC with all the goodies, Cartech FMU, AEM FPR, Greddy Type S, Apexi S-AFC etc (I am guessing the CAI from the V1 would also work on the V2?) I want to put it on my car but have recently been having second thoughts. The reason is that some claim that the sound of the V1 is obnoxiously loud and even that you may get a phone call to the police from a neighbor if you sit and let your car idle in your driveway. I really want to slap this thing on there but should I wait until I can get the V2 trade in? The current V1 is in perfect condition and should warrant me a class A trade in, so the cost would be about $850.00. I would still have the V1 bracket so reliability wouldn't be a problem, but is the V1 so loud that it would warrant waiting longer and getting a V2 (I am moving soon and money will be tight for a while?) I figure it would be a lot easier to do the trade while the SC was still not on the car.

DO NOT get rid of it!!! I have never had a problem with the police for it, and have gotten countless jaw drops and compliments for it. It's loud, but turn the stereo up softly and the noise is gone. It is not THAT bad, and I loved every minute of it.

Catch me on AIM sometime. I have a 1.8MB video clip of my car, more specifically my supercharger, idling and revving.

Street, the V1 sounds pretty nice, especially the first few months you've had it on your car. I've had it on for nearly a year now and there's only the odd time where it has annoyed me. Pop it on and swap it out for a V2 when you need to rebuild it.

we can vote all day but it depends what you want. Do you want quiet or crickets? Noise on the v-1 varies. Some are crickety and some are crickets on steroids (obnoxious).

My V1 is definitely noticeable at idle, but I wouldn't call it obnoxious by any means. I think Ian's was unusual in that respect.

Mine was a Gen1 V1 - maybe that's part of it.

Look - I wouldn't have spent the $850 for a V2 swap if I didn't already have a defective blower. The noise, while I once got the cops called on me and also once got pulled over - is bearable to some people...Just not me. I personally hated it, but Craig Mack loves it. It's all about personal preference and your lifestyle.

So keep the V1, and then wait until rebuild time to decide whether you want to swap it or not.

hopefully, however, Vortech is still doing swaps at that time.

Put the V1 In and keep the $850 just in case something goes wrong.

I guess I should have put my goals for the car in the post as well to myself. Basically my whole goal has been to do the things that Nissan should have to improve the max but keep it's natural characteristics. (Web Page coming soon) example, I bought wheels that look a lot like SE wheels, but are larger and have a chrome lip. My suspension has a smooth comfortable ride, gets rid of the 4x4 look but does not make the car looked slammed (more like a stock BMW.) Other little things are chrome gauge rings, clear corners, black wire loom (to cover up all the electrical tape in the engine bay) shaved rear and a chrome exhaust. You can definatly tell that my Nissan is unique and that it stands out from the rest, but it does not scream that it has been modified to the extreme, and might even be able to pass as factory to someone not familiar with maximas (if they thought that it was on the level of a BMW.)

So basically would a V1 be comparible as far as noise to somthing that is factory (I know that roots blowers usually are used as factory superchargers and that they whine at speed, while centrifugal SC's whine at idle) or would the V2 be better for this project, again I would preffer to upgrade the nissan, not turn it into somthing entirely different. Is the V1 just to muscle car-ish to keep the original theme of the Max intact (if the max was a five series BMW, then I am trying to build a Dinan M5.)

To me the V1 isn't muscle-car-ish whatsoever.

It's just annoying.

But still - worth $850 to replace an otehrwise good blower? That's up to you.

with that being said I think the upgrade is for you.. No matter which v-1 you have, you know something is under the hood..

Alright everyone thanks for your replys. An overwhelming majority have told me to quite crying and put the V1 on. The bearings are in great shape so that is what I am going to do. Although I do feel that Confused is right and that for my goals a V2 upgrade would be better, I am going to go ahead and put the v1 on for at least a little while so that I can be boosted; then worry about the upgrade later if I decide the V1 is just way to much (as it will be a while until I would be able to buy a V2 upgrade, I am moving in December and don't have a job lined up yet.)

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
