supercharge my max? or no?
supercharge my max? or no?
i have about 107,000 miles on my max. i have pretty much every bolt on mod that i can do. i want to keep more of a sleeper look and do not want to do anything more cosmetic. all i have cosmetic are the clear corners and clear tails. performance i have technoquare ecu, stillen intake, warpspeed y, WS catback, catco hi flow cat, UR UDP, sparks, tokico illuminas, eibach springs, courtesy FSTB. i do not plan on getting the MEVI and was wondering what u guys thought would be the next mod, if any, i should do. thanks
well i always want to go faster. but i just dont know how well my car would deal with a supercharger?? should i save the money that i make over the summer away from college or spend the money on a supercharger? so i guess what im really asking is how well or how much longer will i have my max if i supercharge it?
if you have the casha flow and love your maxima above and beyond getting a faster sports car, i say do it !
i would love a supercharger but cant afford it. from what i understand as long as your engine is in great-good condition you can do it. also, please buy me one as well !

I wouldnt be worrried too much about it, the VQ motor can handle ALOT. Even if you were to blow the motor, you can get VQ motors a dime a dozen. I've seen alot of low mileage motors for $750.

I woudnt get a turbo. When was the last time u sow a person who build u a reliable turbo? Um no one yet. They all suck.
So why dont u get a used SC and get it installed right, get good pulleys and dont run 2.87 pulley so the SC lasts a long time.
As far as the engine goes, do a compression check and pay attention to ur tranny. If u have all stock parts then ur nissan cluch will starts slipping so thats more money to waste.
I believe u have to get rid of the ECU and the pulley cause they dont mix with the SC. Good luck
do a compession test and see how your motors runnin, im thinkin the same thing cause i got 137k but still runnin strong, i know maximas like my buddie rafel hu got 200k and runner strong. In the end it comes down the how the car is and was maintained.

I think that you should go for the supercharger if you really think that you will have your maxima for a long time. It's something that most maximas don't have. Even though it cost alot of money at least your max will be a beast.
I agree somewhat with what frank said; our cars can be fast, but they'll never be the type of ride you'd feel from a true sports car.
don't get me wrong, I love my car, and I've already spent a stupid amount of cash on it, but sometimes you have to step back and realize that some money is better spent elsewhere, depending on how tight your budget is.
but hey wtf, if you have the money to spend, and you want a fast maxima, go for it.
and for good measure, my preference for FI would be a supercharger over a turbo based on reliability factors. turbo is just such high maintenance work.

I dont think Noob's should be able to go out of the neutral range in the convo, but anyways, Why would you want a GERMAN car when you can have a Maxima. Man these people are loosing there love for there car, nothing can give you the thrill when you smoke that rice burner or eat that v8, or when you go up against a car your supposd to loose to but beat him by a car.
I have heard good things about the SC and reliability...that it really doesn't affect it that much. Anything that makes more power is going to shorten your engine life somewhat...but it sounds like the SC isn't going to blow it up right away or keep you in the shop. If I had the money I would probably do it...
If you got the money and WANT to invest in your max go with a sc. Im still contemplating over a SC or a Turbo. Reliability is a BIG issue for me. However, It will be a year or two before i acutally get arround to affording a supercharger or turbo. Hopefully I can keep the Maxima thru-out college. For my next car.. Im looking at a 1994-1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo 6 speed. By the time i get out of college and get a good paying job I can invest like hell in it. :P
Get another 4th gen, then throw everything at this one (SC, spray etc) you won't have to worry about reliability, and if you have to work on it you can let it sit for a while and not stress to get it done.
My max handles very much like a sports car, I am quite happy with it. Like another member said you can't beat the feeling of smoking a car you shouldn't, and at the same time having a nice big four door that seperates you from the typical boy racer rice boy.

As for reliable turbo kits, I've seen one. The one I helped build in Sadler's car seems to be running fine. In fact since it's the only one of it's kind in existence our product has been 100% reliable. Admittedly he doesn't constantly push the boost up like a lot of the turbo guys which is why there are so many failure issues along with the lack of a MEVI to drop a bolt somewhere all the while putting down some very impressive numbers. Quite honestly, I'm a layman when it comes to turbo kit building but w/ enough research and getting help from the local turbo shop it's possible to design a reliable turbo for the VQ. I mean you gotta pay to play if you want to push your car to its limits. The SC guys have probably incurred just as many costs trying to push their cars past 10psi in V2 rebuilds, pulley upgrades and intercooler modifications. With how cheap VQ's are from the junkyard I expect to see a lot more blown motors from both SC and turbo setups as guys take the engine past its limitations.
