Hey Guys, I have found a reputable shop that maybe willing to build me a custom Turbo Exhaust Manifold for my 2K1, I would like to have the advise of the expert here, which Turbo should I buy, please give me infos as to model number and brand, btw someone is offering a GarrettT4, what do you think.
I not looking at boosting in the high number let say something like 5-8 lbs of boost with an intercooler.

Any good advise would be appreciate.

AA, So you want to boost at 5-8psi with an intercooler.

The main question you need to ask yourself before saying you dont want to boost more than 5-8psi is that do you want to boost early or later? Do you want more area under the curve or you want top end like no other.

Here are two examples. Get a t3/t4 and you will boost very quick off the line like 2500rpms you should be at full 5-8psi. But its not going to have the same amount of top end like a straight t4. Only drawback to a straight t4 is that you probably wont real fullboost till like 4000-4500rpm.

I personally like the t3/t4 idea.

BTW, these examples are based on non-ball bearing turbos, if we put a ball bearing into this mix, it will totally change some of the rpm figures.

Hey Dixit, I know some guy are running low boost without intercooler but to me intercooler and turbo are associated you know I'm from the old school... so for beginning I would prefer to play safe and increase the boost only when the tranny get strenghten and got big brake. I should have gave a little more infos but I was rush by the kids and wife to finish.

I would prefer to have the boost early, I though most turbo were ball bearing ! I still have a lot to learn, it never stop. I know I'm going to spend a good amount of cash so I would defenitely prefer to buy a better build turbo. I was looking at Turbonetic what do you think of the brand ? I really appreciated your advise, I know you've been working hard to get that car where it is and that's what I plan to do to. I will start the construction of my garage next spring, so for now I start to buy parts and tools. If you have a list of suggestions in term of must have for turbo, like electronics or anything that is a must, I'd be more that happy to ear about it. Again thanks for your support, I appreciated your comments.

Cheers

Turbonetics is very good. Garrett is great as well.

Intercoolers run about $350-600 depending on what you want, how big, how fancy, configurations and stuff.

As we are speaking now, Im about to finish my 5spd in a few hours and take it for a ride and see how that feels with the turbo now.

As far as models, like I said, it still comes down to what you want to do. If you want to do t3/t4, the do either a t3/t4b or t3/t4e. The e housing is a bit bigger than the b. So that means more boost on the top end and slower boost.
