battery relocation

i have a question for anyone who has relocated their battery to the trunk.

did you use a kit??

i was thinking of just getting power wire for stereos for this.
do i just connect the power wire to the stock positive terminal????
and what gauge wire do i use?

any information would be appreciated

thanks

0/1ga for the power wire
4ga for ground (grounded in the trunk)

it's a good idea to put a fuse or something in the power wire

SUM-G1200A $43 at SummitRacing.com It includes the box, power cable and ground cable.

All you need then is a nice fuse for the power wire.

alot of the relocation kits use 2 gauge wire.

i was gonna get some amp wires and nice car audio terminals. ill see what the cost comes out to.

did you guys run the wire out is of the car or inside the car??

Best thing to use is 0 gauge wire with a fuse circuit breaker. 1 or 2 gauge wont cut it, worst if you live in the cold north east.

Untrue. I use a 2ga wire going to the front through a 150amp fuse. Summits wire is much thicker stranded which can handle more amps than normal fine stranded wire.

I lived in DC when it snowed 4ft last year and I got no problems starting. It cranks like it has fullpower. Not to mention the 60amp draw on the amp for the subs.

me and a friend both have 4ga in our 3rd gens running and nethier of us have had any problems the only problem ive encounted is i originaly had a 120amp fuse and it was fine for 2 months but then it blew on a 100 degree day while i was at the HoNDA dealer getting a free car wash (long story) i made nissan look really bad that day but any way 150amp has been fine for me and a friend but im going to get a circuit breaker just so i dont have to worrey about spare fuses anymore

also when i went to the track the guy said i needed an externaly mounted cut off switch next time. any one heard of this i guess ill just mount it under the car somwhere

4ga is almost too little, its not rated for 150amps.

We just used the already run 1/0 gauge stereo power wire w/ the fuse relocate to the trunk in Shadow's car and the cheap Summit racing box. We had problems w/ his POS Holley Annhiliator battery dying though so I ended up running the included wire to the front as a ground while trying to diagnose the problem. The car is also grounded to a point in the trunk to for when we reintroduce his massive stereo.

Also, it's best to mount the battery right at the ski pass through if you have a shaved trunk lid otherwise a dead battery can be quite a hassle.

The included wire is likely enough for most situations.

The remote switch for the power seems to be pretty expensive in comparison to the box itself. We'll only run it if they yell at us at the track.

Make sure you put a sealed battery in there. Get an Optima. Don't want to kill yourself on fumes
