hey guys,
how much do you guys trust your supercharger let's say going long distance (about 400+ miles). The idea of goin long distance scares me.Anything can happen. Shredding the belt is one of the main one. What are you guy's experiences and thoughts on it?
thanx for your input

I asked this question last year and the consensus was that it was safe. I've decided to keep in my trunk a tool kit with extra belts.

what kind of belt did you get? and extra stock one or the one for the S/C. I ask this cuz it would suck if you are trying to put the belt on in the desert.

I have the SC belt. I know, I know...oh Lord it would be no fun if you have to change it on the side of the road!

The belt can shread, and i can atest to that (mine shreaded on tuesday night). The thing is the car kept running. I was about 1-2 miles from home. I didn't know what the hell was going on when i heard the sound, but i knew something was wrong. Next thing i know the noise stopped, but my battery and brake light came and stayed on. I babied the car home, and then saw that the belt had shreaded.

Just my .02 cents.

I take my max on road trips all the time. I drove from richmond va to atlanta ga and back in the same day!! One reason why your belts are shreding is due to the belt becoming loose and then basically jumping a rib. After that it just eats itself. This has happened to me a couple of times, if your lucky and catch right after it jumps the belt is still in good shape and just realign and tighten it back up.

Tempting fate, eh, Frank?!

Yeah, did a 1000+ mile trip over 1 weekend before. Someone else reported an even longer trip (New Orleans trip or something?)...

You will "get to know" how reliable your setup is during normal driving. Some of us here have a lot of problems; some have (virtually) no problems with the V2. But, I'm with Frank... we work on our own cars I bought my S/C new and did the install myself.

<though that may not be the only factors>

The car can keep running after the belt snaps for a good 20 miles. I lost my ilder pulley once and made it 18 miles to home without problems. Because our Water Pumps are on the timing chain and not the belt, we don't have the problems other cars can when they lose their belts. We just have to run off battery power.

However, I always have a stock belt and all the tools needed to change it in my trunk.

I made it from Seattle to Phoenix and back (3200 total miles) without any issues regarding the blower. (Although my CV Joint went out - which sucked but was at least still drivable)

Ugh...I just typed up a long reply and the .org blew chunks on me...

Anyway - I can do the blower belt in about 45 minutes with a friend and proper tools.

I wouldn't dare try it on the side of some freeway.

Which is why I carry the stock belt.

Clutch - no chatter yet, grabs hard, pedal WAY softer than ACT - only driven it 96 miles tho.

Wife - good and bad. Yin and Yang. suck and blow.

From Toronto to NYC and back in 1 weekend, no problems. I've had the blower on for 70k now and I drive like a *****, so I guess my turn is coming with the belt, huh?
