Making SS Line w/ -4 or -6 AN end Fittings?
Making SS Line w/ -4 or -6 AN end Fittings?
You know how they have the ss hose for sale on www.jegs.com
I was wondering how you could cut a specified length and put AN fittings on them instead of having barb fittings.
are there any special tools that are needed?
should i go with russell, aeroquip, jegs or what for the brand, is there that much of a difference?
I know that there is that high temp/high pressure rubber stuff that jegs makes too. anyone have experience with that stuff?
BTW-This is going to be used for a fuel set-up. It goes like this: sx7r fuel rail barb fitting-->aem fpr-->vortech fmu-->tank return line
I was also wondering if i should adapt the fuel filter side too, or would that be overboard?

To cut standard stainless steel braided hose you just put tape around (either black electrical tape or duct tape) the area you are going to make the cut, and then use a Hacksaw and cut basically on the tape and through the tape. If you have a Cutoff wheel available use that instead the hacksaw as it is quicker.
The reason for the tape is so that the braids when cut dont fall apart. And when you done, leave the tape on there so you can slide the AN fitting over the hose easily. Thats it.
Go with any brand, they all the same in the end. I had the same setup as you just described and did it all with standard 6an braided hose from Jegs.

is there a gasket or something that has to be put into the hose before you put the end fittings on?
i was looking at this site for similar info

i picked up 15ft of -6AN SS hose and a couple 90 degree hose ends (all summit brand) for under $100. 15ft is plenty enough to do the lines running to the FPR.
i suggest cutting the SS hose with either a chop saw or air cutting wheel. you will need a clean cut end to get into the hose end. once you get a clean cut, put the hose end into a vise, spray the hose end and hose with a lubricant and work it into the the hose end very carefully.
if you are not careful the SS braid will start to pull back and be impossible to get into the hose end.
you can also leave the tape on the end of the hose but that also makes for a tighter fit but keeps the braid in order.
