Custom Fuel Rail (Come in if your Interested)

Well I have been talking to a gentlemen about making a custom fuel rail for our cars. For people who want to upgrade past 370's but can not afford it. I am thinking about using DSM injectors because anything past 444cc can be bought brand new for $350 or less or used for as cheap as $75. It would also make upgrading cheaper. Here is a picture of the type of fuel rail they make.

The only problems I can think of is wiring the injector. This has been done on SR's and they use the same type of injectors as us, so I don't see it being that hard. This would be a top feed convertion.

Also would the ecu be able to control the injectors correctly since they are top feed. I am guessing you could correct that with a program like e-manage? I am waiting for some quotes for one set, and for maybe a discount on a group deal. This would be a full kit I believe including fittings and stainless line, or I can ask him just for the rails because I know everybodies kit is different.

Just wondering if anybody would have a cut away of a fuel rail or know spacing of injectors. I need to send him some kind of picture, to get an estimate.

designing a rail system like that for an I6 or I4 is a lot easier cause they are all inline and usually top mount on the manifold, but for a V6 like the VQ, seems like there will be clearance issues being that the injectors are all buried. have you personally ever seen the stock rail? ....seems like a waste to me. the cost you spend on the this rail will probably be more than a set of 550s would cost, but whatever...

there could definitly be clearance issus with the rear injectors although if you could get a set of rails for under 200$ it would probobly be worth it considering the cost of top feed injectors

as far as working with the stock ecu as long as the saturated the should work with just a harness change

i think dsm injectors are peak/hold but there are still big saturated top feed injectors out there for hondas and damestics

I would agree with da-max. 370s are good for 400hp, how many people are exceeding that? Design would be difficult and costly, probably as much as the 550s. The SR20s really need those large DSM injectors, since 550s can only put out 400hp in an I4 so they need 780cc or 880cc. Additionaly, DSM injectors are sold in matched 4-pairs.

I have take the upper manifold 20+ times. There is 2 seperate rails that have a rubber fuel line connecting the two. I don't think the DSM injectors or any other injectors would be that much taller than our injectors.

I wish I had an extra rail. I am going to talk about taking my car there, and I will take it off over there and see what he thinks.

VR-4 uses same injectors I believe. V6

well considering 400hp = 340whp there are lots of maxs both sc and turboed that are already exceding or planing on exceding it and 550cc injectors are at min 100$ a piece so if the custom rails were cheap enogh it may be worth while

you cant beat a deal like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...904547275&rd=1

and incase you dont know 50lb = 550cc

they are also low impedience / peakhold so they wont work with out some how altering the signal and im not sure if the emange cat do it

I don't want to pay $500+ for injectors.

Just to make sure, I would need to find a top feed, low impedience, and saturated? Let me look for some that are on pretty cheap. Anybody know about Ford Injectors like for mustangs. If JWT can get a MAF too work, I am sure we can get the injectors to work.

Probally just 95-99. It might work for 2000-2001. We would have to wait and see if this would even g through. I saw that new 555 cc injectors from Nissan are about $700. Thats crazy.

Here is a good site on different injectors from stock cars. I was seeing if we could use any of those but they ar emostly peak and hold.

I'm planning on building my own fuel rails in the next month or so. I found this fuel rail stock for $12/foot Linky I thought that all GM and Honda injectors are peak and hold, so we'll have to look into what else is available.

these rails come in stock, so all that is needed is the ability to make mounts that will weld on and hold the injectors and rail tight. From what my instructor said, you just drill a hole in the bottom of the rail where it needs to have an injector. I hope it works, b'c I want BIG power, and I'm a poor college student.

stock RX7 turbo injectors are 550cc's of saturated low impedence goodness... I'm looking at a set of four for $50. HELL YES that's cheap!

Aren't A32 or Z32 TT injectors P&H?

If so, either type of injector will work, ie P&H or saturation.

A saturation injector can be used in place of an original P&H injector without ECU problems, but not the other way.

Also, krismax is running 5th gen saturation injectors with his A32 ECU.

If A32's are peak and hold that is better,

lets straighten this out

high impedience (10-16ohms) = saturated

low impedence (1-3ohm) = peak hold

as far as i know all nissans use high impedence/ saturated injectors. so do most fords and there are others out there but from what ive read it seams most factory turbo cars use peak/hold

Yes I found this out today, from FreshAlloy.com . I am also a poor college student looking for the best bang for the buck. Rx-7 injectors might be the thing but you need some kind of metal collars or they will link. Here is website:

http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/tech/h...Binjectors.htm

I am trying to find some locally cheap.

so, do our cars use saturation, or peak and hold? I'm really confused. I heard before, that they are high impedence saturation injectors... but what's the difference really? if the Z32 90-94 injectors are low impedence, and the 95/96 z32 injectors are high inpedence, then wouldn't they be completely different injectors? Blah...

This is frusturation

You got the right idea. 99% of you won't know me but I once used to have a max... went w/ a 300zxTT
anyways.... the 94+ or I believe 95+ injectors for the Z better of the bunch being that each injector has 4 seperate holes rather than 1 like 90-93 styles do.
That being said, the earlier style injector vs. the later styles will be more shallow into the cylinder rather than deeper, therefore, changing your spray pattern and where the fuel will spray. I know in the Z community it has been agreed upon to use the newer stys 94/5+ injector, fuel rail, and lower plenum are the better design. I believe for you Max guys, it's a matter of just the new injector and reusing the existing connector.

One of the previous posts stated using a DSM injector... .if that would work all you would need is the injector connectors from a DSM as well and hopefully it should also be 2wires. Then again, i would stick with what's been known to work.

Hey Nate I just contacted a SARD importer and he said the o-ring kit for Rx-7 injectors is $50 for 4. So I am assuming 6 for $75. Thats a good price, and you wouldn't have to make your own fuel rails and such. Let me know if you want in so I can contact him back. He said no discount even if you buy 100, he said sard is very firm with their prices.

so with this O-ring kit, I'll be abble to use RX7 injectors on my stock fuel rail? Why would this be any different than getting the stock RX7 O-rings? Sounds like something I'll be looking into for sure!

thanks

The rx-7 injectors will not fitin their perefectly, it will leak a little and this stops it from leaking.

http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/tech/h...Binjectors.htm

Read that page it tells you all the modfication you have to do. You probally have to do the same for our fuel rail.

I think I'm going to hold off for now, and find a set of 370's. Until I get myself set up to boost with the JWT ECU and Z32 MAF/Injectors, I don't want to put the extra effort into custom fuel stuff yet. At least that's what I'm thinking for now.... I'll deffinitely keep this in mind for future reference though, Thanks for the Help!
