which gauge should I get?

which gauge should I get? and what would be the pros and cons of each...

an EGT or AFR gauge with a wideband O2?

I know the EGT would be the cheaper route...but does the EGT respond fast enough where you can prevent damage to your engine if you were to go really lean for some reason? or is the EGT a slow guage which doesn't respond too quickly to AFR changes...which effectively change the exhaust temps...

AFR Gauges ive heard are pointless...get a good EGT gauge, Fuel pressure, and boost and youll be set. The EGT will react fast enough

also, is there any gauges out there that look like our stock se speedo and tach gauges...ie. white background and black numbers and black needle....

are there any gauges out there that reverse like the stock SE gauges do? ie. white face, black numbers....and turn your lights on to black face, white numbers at night (electroluminescent)?

The afr gauges that connect to your narrowband O2 sensor are indeed worthless, but michael is talking about an afr gauge or readout using a wideband O2 sensor.

The wideband O2 sensor makes more sense if you're willing to spend the money. Not only is it a direct measuring device (unlike the egt, which only infers what your afr is), but if you get the Innovate LM-1 you get datalogging capabilities for five other parameters as well as afr. I datalog afr, manifold pressure, maf voltage, fuel pressure and throttle position against rpm.

Since I installed my wideband, I don't even look at the egt gauge anymore. I honestly can't tell you what my egt is at the end of a quarter mile, but I know exactly what my afr is at any rpm.

well....the phantom series gauges from autometer look good, but had a red needle...and I have a 95 SE....so I would prefer gauges with white face, black lettering, and black needle

alternatively...I would be willing to put in gauges that are black face, white lettering, and white needle

but it doesn't look like such gauges exist...I have looked around everywhere!!!

I don't know yet how much I want to spend, what is the cheapest wideband solution with no datalogging...just the plain gauge and sensor?

About $340 for the sensor and controller, another $100 for the additional input box if you want to be datalogging stuff, $60 or so for the analog afr gauge.

These gauges suck IMHO. Stay away from autometer

autometer guages are cheap (not inexpensive). that's why a lot of people always get different readins with their boost gauges compared to the higher quality gauges like defi, greddy, etc.

wideband 02 is the only way to go. it gives you the best possible readout as it gives you the exact air fuel ratio. you can get a setup for right over 300 dollars from plx devices. for 509 after shipping you can get the datalogging version of the plx devices wb02 setup. www.plxdevices.com
