MItsubishi Starion Turbo charger in a 4th Gen Max???
On my visit to the junkyard to look for parts for my 96 Max, I noticed there were alot of Mitsubishi Startions with turbos there. I had an idea to take a turbo off of a Starion and apply it to my Max...is that possible...? Has anyone done that before or something like it? I don't know much about turbos (obviously), but It sounds like a good idea and a cheaper way of getting it.
OK I read this thread and my first instinct was "that turbo is way too small."
Then I got interested in seeing how small it was, so I started doing a little research. Long story short, a stock starion turbo is a Mitsubishi TD05-12A, which - after a bunch of searching, calculations, conversions, and compressor mapping - flows about the same amount of air as a Garrett T3 45 trim. That's not alot of air. In fact it is almost exactly half of what the turbo in my sig (a T04e 46 trim) flows at the same efficiency level (the upper end of the 76% efficiency island).
So long story short - that turbo is too small for a maxima
