Clutch

I know this should be posted in the generation-specific forums... but I don't think many bolt-on guys make that much power.

What clutch would you recommend for a 4th gen (1995) max with about 250-260 HP at the wheels (And more or less the same torque, probably a bit less)? Mine is slowly going (stock), and besides it simply is not going to handle all the power from the 3.5...

Since I've already dealt with Cattman I was thinking of the JWT stage II (Or stage III but it says not intended for street use). Is that one any good? I've heard the stage 2 ain't much better than stage 1 and that the step is bigger between stage 2 and stage 3. Or would you recomend staying away from JWT altogether?

I plan on going to the track about 2-3 times a month during May-October and I don't exactly baby my car (to a reasonable level; my foot is heavy).

Thanks for the help.

and the answer is...

ClutchNet 6 Puck Prung Hub Clutch and Pressure Plate...

couldnt be happier with it - ask IANSW and MardigrasMax too - both will testify.

Got mine for $400 shipped w/ PP and TO Bearing.

and after 1000miles of driving i really enjoy it. Sounds like it would be good for your application.

I have the clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub disk and ACT PP, very happy with the performance and pedal pressure, though chatter is a major issue. I can live with it since the performance is unmatched and the pedal pressure is very light, but others might not be able to. Also this setup is certainly overkill for only 260ish whp I would think. Clutchnet told hal when he purchased this disk it was ideal for up to 600whp.

Lol, 600 hp. Ridiculous amount of power. You boosted guys... sick.

What about the chatter... could you be a little more specific? I only owned automa**** cars before (I know, I know, but I'm only 18).

Since I have a 3.5 I'll be going all out N/A for a while (They are currently developping an upper end for the 350z to make about 300rwhp), but when I decide I want more I'll just replace my bottom end with a 3.0 and keep my 3.5 heads for the lower compression (8.9:1) and better flow/more agressive cams and boost it. So the 600hp clutch might be an investment. But I highly doubt it'll last that long. Does clutchnet have less heavy duty clutches? Like 300-350 crank hp?

I still say anyone with 600hp in a maxima is slighlty deranged...

UPDATE/EDIT: It seems the chatter is supposed to slowly go away within 1500 miles... I came across this thread searching: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?p=3310594

I don't know how many miles my clutch has on it, I can find out, but chatter is basically the entire drivetrain shaking as you engage the clutch. It can happen a little bit with the stock clutch, primarily when the clutch is cold, but with my clutch setup its like 10x worse than it ever was with my stock clutch on my old car. Sometimes it does it worse than other times, it happens while slipping the clutch. If I just let it out really quickly it doesn't really chatter, but that makes for rather jerky starts as you can imagine.
