Might be purchasing a SCed max, got some questions

Well im looking to purchase a 96 SE with a stillen V2 supercharger... The car has 140K, and the tranny is no more than a year old, with a brand new SPEC clutch in it. He "freshened up" the engine at 77k with a new head gasket, timing chain, and injectors, and he got a compression test done and said everything checked out...I was wondering if buying a maxima with 140k on the engine, and has been supercharged for a while... is it going to be a reliable engine for me?? I mean, I've had two maximas, and I know they are dang near bullet proof in N/A form, but when it comes to F/I on a VQ, im clueless.. I'm good with my supra.. but not a max... any input would be appriciated. THANKS!

If the car has been tuned safely it should be just fine. Just peform a compression test yourself to find out prior to buying, that is likely to tell the story.

So is there anything that I should look for when buying a SCed maxima, other than making sure the compression is OK? He has an SAFC, so I assume it's been tuned with a wideband sometime in its life...

For one thing the sound of the V2 should be quiet but noticeable at idle. When you come to a stoplight while test driving it, see if the tone of the SC changes to a marbles-in-a-can sound while in gear. Check the blower for leaks underneath.

It may make this marble/grinding sound in neutral too.

Not good.... The blower still works but that sound means it is getting alot closer to rebuild time. If you can get the car for a good deal I would say go for it. It will cost around $4 or 500 to get it fixed. If it is making this sound you can use it to your advantage when making a $ offer.

I forgot to mention why I brought up the marbles sound!
A healthy V1 blower you can hear from literally half a block away!
A rebuild will take 3 to 4 weeks turnaround time and around $400.

A v1 sounds very nice. You scare Hundas and other cars away. People start turning their heads at the light. Even with a V2 cars will be like WTH is that? what car is making up that noise? Gear heads love that noise. Thats why I SCed my 95 max. After all my BS family problems are solved I might install a V1 kit on my 95 again
