ssqv does not sound like ssqv?

i have a friend with a turbo 97, and he has the HKS SSQV blow-off valve on his car and it doesnt sound like a normal ssqv. instead of it having that ear piercing high pitched hiss it sounds like the blow off valve out of the original gran turismo. my cousin had the ssqv on his sti and it sounded perfect. does this problem have to do with the boost settings or is it just because its broken or something......just curious.

I think the sound will vary depending on the set up. For ex. the size of turbo, boost, and length of pipe. Maybe the location of the bov and size of IC too. It's not going to sound the same on all cars. Plus you can tighten and loosen the bov and there are different pieces you can put on the hks.

interesting, what would need to be done to get the most sound out of a BOV, or where is best place to put it for optimal sound?

I would not go adjusting the SSQZ via the screw on the back of it, I have read many places that it can cause it to malfunction. Even HKS has stated this

My buddy had just ordered the HKS Gold Fin for his Turbo H22 and it did not change the sound any, conclusion...waste of money.

On another note, I had also noticed that my HKS does not sound like my buddies on his Turbo H22, mine has a Shuddering / Echoing Sound....I wish I could adjust that but doesn't really bug me as long as its doing its job properly.

Plus the sound of the Turbo Spooling is much more addicting!
