Engine wiring harness

Any of you guys that swapped motors out on a 97-98 have a 5spd engine harness?... I think that may be the reason i have all these b.s. codes on my ecu right now. I have an I30 engine harness for an auto on my 97 maxima ecu.

if the harness on the I30 was an auto, then you should be fine. the auto harness has several plugs for the tranny.

That's the problem though - I know the auto one will work, i've done this before - The problem is that it was from an I30 I think, I'm getting the same codes that I30 guys get when they use a maxima ecu.

For one, the EVAP system is totally different.

I was able to put a 97 auto maxima motor in my 96 5spd I30 and get everything connected with no CEL, but that is kinda opposite of what your doing so I am not sure. There were several hoses and sensor that I did not use on the new motor and several solenoids I had to bring over from my I30 motor.

Also rear 02 sensors on 97-99's have 4 prongs, 95/96's have 3 so they're not compatible. Thats why my car would keep throwing a CEL, I had to change my ECU.

mike, did you have the auto harness off that motor? I may give that a shot if someone has it.

No, I threw it away thinking it would have no use. Sorry!

that does not make sense, i would say try to get the wiring diagrams for the ecu and find out if any wires are crossed when you compare them, or missing.

so tell me why exactly it doesnt make sense. Clearly the harnesses are different between the I30 and maxima since I'm getting the same code as Mike did when his I30 was fitted with a MAXIMA ecu - I'm having the same problem, just backwards.

It is not a matter of it working or not...it is a matter of having to sift through 15 CEL codes all the time.

In my case... it does make sense... my wiring harness is stock 95 but the ECU in my car was from a 98 or so... they're not compatible. Like I said, 98's for example had an extra wire on the rear 02, so it would not be compatible... thats just in my case though... I30 is a different scenario as well. The only way to truly find out is to get schematics and compare them.

thats all i'm trying to say guys, to truly see if you can make it work or not get a schematic and compare it. maybe try just comparing the ecu connector first to see if there is an extra wire or wires in a diff location.

Bingo thats it right there. A VQ block is a VQ 3.0 block. I swapped in a 95 engine into my 98 engine. There are sensors that I needed to remove and all the vacuum sources that my 98 motor had attached to it, I removed it and attached it to the 95 motor. NO CEL

Thats why Hal said he does not recommed you drop a engine from another a different year into your maxima. Because it may have one two or three things that your current engine may or may not have attached to it. It is up to the individual to check.

well thats it. Hopefully when I get back I will be working on dropping 3.5s into our 4th gens

you guys take care

See you guys in less then 40 dias!!!
