Got my pipes back

Powder coated black. Thinking about having this place ceramic coat all my exhuast too, but that is gonna be expensive. Paid $65 to have the original white power coating sandblasted off and powder coated black. I think they did a pretty good job.

$65 is cheap. Good deal, how much do they want for the ceramic coating?

I thought so too. I have never had anything powder coated before and was guessing it would cost around $150 or so for all ten pieces. I did a google search and found a place in IL that had a decent looking web site www.powderperfect.com

He did not give me an exact price on what ceramic coating my exhaust would be. He would need to see pics and get dimensions. But he said for referance that V8 long tube headers usually run about $300 for inside and outside. I got alot more piping than just headers, but mine is much more simple than headers. I would guess it would cost me $400-$500 for the reverse for all the turbo piping (reverse y-pipe type). The are the type of place you could bargin with I bet.

Why don't you just go and ask? Doesn'y hurt to ask. $65 is a hell of a deal for all that though. V8 long tube headers are going to be more piping than your reverse y-pipe and headers. If you could get it for $200, I would say go for it, especially if you could get the exhuast housing of your turbo in on the deal too. Turbo ans exhaust wrap is going to cost that plus it won't look so pretty.

What was the turn around on the pipes?

I will ask but I don't have my exhaust yet. I still have yet to pick up the exhaust from Nealoc187, who I bought the stuff from. Once I get it I will take some pics and measurements and send it to this guy for a price. It's more than just the y-pipe section I would want done.

I would want all this done. Not my headers though becasue I am not taking those things off again. Looking at the exhaust again it may not be that much, I will find out for sure later down the road. Nothing is being installed soon anyhow

oh yeah I forgot about the downpipe also.

Oh yeah your probably going to have to take off the powdercoat where the blow-off valve sits.

The flange was powder coated before so I figured it would be fine

That looks absolutely beautiful. $65 seems extremely cheap too. I'm very interested in the ceramic coating. Please let us know how much it ends up being.

Yeah Mike they look really great! I think I may have to make a trip to this powdercoat shop. I am interested in getting a few things done myself. Nice job finding this place!

Mike, did you get a quote from Loko for thermal coating? My friend Sonny had his downpipe coated there and they did a really nice job. The price was cheap IIRC.

I got my downpipe done for ~$85... And it's pretty long.

I did talk to someone there but they said they would have to send out my pipes to get the original powder coating off since they don't do sandblasing. They couldn't give me a price on that but they acted like it was expensive or something. I just went with this place because it was real convienent and a good price.

No, If I was going to wrap them then I would not have spent the money on the powder coating. I may wrap all of my exhaust if I don't get it ceramic coated

You do know that header wrap will accelrate rust?

I'd ceramic coat them and wrap them.

The ceramic coating will protect the pipes from the elements and the effect of header wrap.

header wrap is going to crack the welds near the flanges on non ceramic coated pipes.

I have a close friend in Las Vegas that did ceramic coatings for all types of exhausts. He told me that most people go with the polished/shiny look. But the most efficient AND the cheapest method is flat BLACK. It might not look as good as the nice chrome ceramic coating headers look, but it will be better! That's what I'm going to do... black. He quoted me about the same price for a set of big block long tube headers being around $300.

Don't mess with header wrap! It will actually hold in heat on the exterior of the piping and will accelerate rust and decrease the lifespan on the piping. If you get a nice ceramic coating job done, you won't need any wrap and it will last a long time! It actually keeps the heat where it's suppose to be... IN the pipes. Not held between the exterior of the pipes and the exhaust wrap. Longer life, hotter exhaust, better flow, more boost!

I actually read some stuff I found that said exactly what you posted. The place I would get it done does not even do the chrome type ceramic coating, they only do a brownish or grey color. I don't care about the color much as long as its not pink or anything. You won't be able to see it.

You gonna be down in Dallas for the Maxus meet this summer? Me and Neal may come down with our turbo VQ's

When do you think you will have your turbo up and running? Won't be untill late March or early april for me.

When in the summer is it? Once i find out when then i'll know if i'll be able to go, but must likely i'll be done there.

I wont be done with mine untill April or May. But if every thing goes right maybe sooner.

I have a local place here (PRO STRIP) do my coating and they charge around 200 for long tube headers jet-hott. I had my pipes done and it was 200.00 for jet hott. they claimed that it is an 8 step process and requires several processes.
