I love gear wrenches! (taking out the s/c)

Can I just say that they make the whole process so much easier? It was the first time I got to use the christmas present that my girlfriend gave me.

I am in the process of removing the supercharger and awac (already done)

The reason for this is that I want to take pics of the inside of the awac to have as a reference for people that ask and get the piping powdercoating. As well as fix a couple of leaks and make improvements with a custom powersteering cooler (i used the stock lines and they are leaking)

thanks mike for the great resource. i will try and get a quote tomorrow for the coating.

Yeah, that's what I have. They're a bit pricey, but the cheapo ones have way too much slop built into them to be very useful.

$75 for the 8-10 basic wrenches isn't bad, however filling in the gaps bites you in the azz.

I like the Craftsman better because you have the switch vs. flipping over to change directions. The only thing I don't like is that they are too thick on the ends, so they're limited in tight areas. I'm not sure on gearwrenches.

I'm thinking about picking up a set. Should I get the one with open end and gear close end? or should I get both side gear close end? Who makes the orginial gear wrench? Snap on?

That's still better than the way I did it. I bought the 13mm wrench that I needed right away for $20. I was too cheap to buy the entire set. I liked it so much that I bought a 10mm wrench for another $20. Then I decided I couldn't live without the 12mm wrench and so on.

Get the open/closed version, since the closed/gear side is too big in some areas and you can just flip sides instead of looking for another wrench the same size.

They are great. The bummer about this country is we need two of nearly every tool. One for metric, and one for english.

i ****ing hate standard measurements.... who in the right mind would want to do math to find the next size up? with metric, if a 10 don't fit go to 11, if that doesn't work go to 12. voila!

with standard lets see... 3/8 to... nevermind... i'm not doing the math

what makes less sense is the fact that the rest of the world uses the metric system... metric = easier... metric = not some measurement taken by someones foot or their hair or whatever the hell they used

SAE =

Yeah the USA is so stubborn. A measurment of 10 is much easier to deal with than a measurement of 12.

It really doesn't make too much brain power to remember that 7/16ths is the next size up from 3/8ths. Or that 3/8ths is .375 and 7/16ths is .4375 Just about any high school drop out mechanic learns the decimal equivalent of all the SAE sizes pretty quickly.

But, sure, metric doesn't take any brain power at all.

12 is actually better than 10 because it has more divisors. You can divide it by 2, 3, 4 and 6. Twelve would have made a more versatile base for our number system. 10 you can only divide by 2 and 5.

that's the thing... you have to remember the numbers. i don't feel like remembering anything when working on my car. i just feel like getting it done quick and driving it quick.
