Supercharge to get STi acceleration?

Hey just wondering what the community would think.

If I supercharged my very-modded 96 with sticky tires-

Q: would I be able to hang with a STi in a straight line from 30- to 100 (on the track, mind you)

Heres the thing - im currently logging 195 Tq and 186.9 HP (@wheels before MEVI) with a whip that only weighs 2850 (before I get in it)

The subaru weighs 3270.

If I went MEVI and S/C I would assume that I would be only 50 lbs heavier.

That means that my tq/wt would probably be around 230/2900= .0793

Subaru Tq = 300 at crank probably 260 at wheels, and weight = 3270

That means that the tq/wt = .0795

Kinda interesing. Thoughts?

Seems like AWD would own you. At a certain point it's all about the traction. Somebody in an STI beating you at the track or something?

Fair question! I was just wondering based on tq or hp/weight... My thoughts are that once you are at 30MPH the AWD isnt that big a factor in a straight line- could be wrong tho..?

At 3000rpm your torque would be maybe 10-20 hp over stock, MAYBE. You're not reaching full boost til redline so at 3k rpm you won't be seeing much of a gain. You also didn't say what pulley you want to run. If it's only the stocker than it won't work for your goals. BTW, put this in the BOOSTED forum.

You would be toast from a stop. It will feel like your towing a boat. Have you ever ridden in an sti before?? Too many unknown variables from a role

STI's are listed at 13.20@104 MPH STOCK. That means a good driver is knocking on the 12-second door. Trap speed (mph) is a good indicator of how much HP a car is making (relative to weight, of course), and is generally very acurate in calculating potential (putting RWD, AWD and FWD differences asside). So, the AWD Subaru only needs 104 mph to get 13.2 timeslips, a RWD car getting such times (for example LS1 Forumas) would trap 107 and a FWD car would probably need 108-109.

Basically, check hp/weight ratios for trap speed (which probably is not affected by whether it's RWD, AWD or FWD). It is the ET that will be affected. There's a maxima running 12.9@111. All on street tires, of course. So, with slicks, you can beat an AWD launch. Neal was running 13.42 at only 102 mph. If you can get the same kind of power/weight ratio as a STI, use slicks to rid him of his AWD advantage.

you would only need maybe 275whp to wax a stock sti from a 30 punch

i pulled on an evo8 pretty hard from a 60mph roll with a 75shot (253whp) and sti's only trap 2-3mph faster so that seems about right

get a sc and 3in pulley and be done with it

Meet the STI on the highway rather than from a dead stop and it will be a totally different story.

Yea, you beat an STi's quarter mile time, youll take the STi. Set your goal to that and youll be fine.

I dont think from a stop you could pull a STI or EVO. You make maxium torque higher in the powerband. When they make max torque like at 3000 rpm or a little lower. From a roll you could take them.

how do you think mardi pulls 1.7X 60fts, who said he couldnt slip the clutch at red line on slicks that would take care of the max torque at red line issue. plus the max has a V6 so its already making alot more torque to begin with. trust me with 275whp and slicks it would be a drivers race from a stop with the max having an advantag. from a roll the max has the win no problem

So ur sayin with a 275whp V6 fwd will definately Wax a 300fwhp awd? What if the 4-banger's on slicks too? Keep in mind that stock STi has 300lb torque @4000 where a 10psi supercharger has bout 275@5500, less than 200@4000.
A rolling starts not really a fair race thou. You dont get that at a track.

So you're saying that the Subaru WRX STI has 100% front wheel drivetrain efficiency? If so they're onto some technology that no one else has. And what about the rear wheels?

Yea but by dumping the clutch at that rpm wouldn't the toast the axles or other parts of the drivetrain?

a couple of us org members went to e-town where there was a sti stock running 13.2 for the most part. C MAX ran him and beat him about 1 1/2 cars for a 13 sec run. i believe he was running 11lbs of boost and 30 shot, i dont know what that adds up to hp wise but it was one good race.

He said slip the clutch, not dump it. Of course, now you're toasting the clutch, but you can control wheel spin while staying in the power curve.
