95-01 Nissan Maxima 3.0L DOHC Street Charger Crank Pulley???
Anybody know what the UR Sc pulley for the Maxima underdrives, if anything?
Per the website:
Per the website:
12-Volt Charger Series (Ultra Sc)
Many of our customers have asked for pulleys that do not underdrive their alternators. Some audio competitions require that voltage remain at the factory levels. With our new 12-Volt Charger Series, the alternator is left to spin at stock levels or is spun with a slight overdrive. The remaining accessories are still underdriven (excludes accessories driven off the same belt as the alternator) for additional power gains
Some aftermarket supercharger systems are driven off the alternator section of the Acura/Honda crank pulley. With our 12-Volt Charger Series crank pulleys, boost levels are maintained. For the B-series Acura/Honda engine applications, our 12-Volt Charger Series crank pulleys act as a slight overdrive, providing a slight increase in boost. Typical boost increases are 2 to 3 psi over a stock supercharger kit for the Acura Integra and Honda Civic Si. It is highly recommended that a high flow fuel pump and a boost dependant ignition system with retard control be installed in these applications. All of our 12-Volt Charger Series crank pulleys are available in a natural polished aluminum finish only.

Only that it is the same size as stock. It is the same as a lightened fly. Less weight to turn. As long as it is the same size as stock it shouldnt do anything other than cut back on weight the crank has to spin.
I think it was StephenMax that said the gains are probably seen in the lower gears, probably up through 3rd. Once you get it spinning at say just as an example (no factual info here) 80mph there would be no benefit because the crank would have overcome the initial weight of the pulley. Some equations and math I can't explain.

I know chris's max just got one. I didn't get a chance to look at it but it SHOULD be the same size as stock. It would be nice if it underdrove the power steering belt but kept the stock size for alternator, a/c, and SC Belt.
I did find a post however that says that the alt, a/c, and SC pulley is slightly smaller, thus underdriving. It could just be the picture or some error on UR's part. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=304010
If it was really a problem I guess you could go down one more pulley size and compensate.

Ice, I received mine a few weeks ago. I beleive this is the answer to your question:
On the same crank pulley, there are two pulleys, using two different belts. The pulley that takes the path of the alternator, supercharger, etc. is NOT under nor over driven. It is 100% stock diameter (6.4" I believe?). The gains come from the lightened weight. The other pulley which takes the path of the power steering, etc. is smaller/underdriven.
Hope that helps.

Both! That's what I was trying to say. There are two on one. Does that make sense?
I'll try to get some pics if it helps. Also, you can easily get under your car, pull back the plastic shielding and see what I am talking about.

It looks like this. There is the drive pulley and then connected to the rear face of the drive pulley is smaller pulley. It looks like a step design if that makes any sense

OK. I will clarify:
I have had this pulley for about 18 months. It is exactley the same size as the OEM pulley except it is lighter and brushed aluminum.
And yes are pulley are 2 in one. One for the power steering pump and on for eveything else including the SC.
I never dynoed but the car got to redline much quicker and started spining the tire when my auto would shift from 2nd to 3rd.
NOTE: This was with my 3.125 pulley and it was the only change that was done.

Latin, so was I correct by saying that the smaller pulley for the power steering is smaller in diameter than stock? I have not compared it to stock, I am only going by what the accompanying Unorthodox Racing instructions read (I didn't know this until after my purchase because they don't say it on the website). Do you feel a difference in steering? Did you need a smaller belt for the PS? Thanks.
P.s. The instructions are awesome by the way. Very professional. You get an 8.5x11 piece of paper with one side being their company pledge to the customer. On the other side is a full set of instructions for our actual car and the actual part we ordered! Not generic. They thank you for buying, they ask for feedback, discuss warranties, etc. Customer service, what a concept. Oh, they even throw in a few stickers.

ptatohed, how long did it take for you to get your pulley from import plus? It has been 2 weeks since i ordered mine and i will finally be getting it today. I called them wednesday to ask what the deal is and the guy said, "oh it will be shipping out today", in other words they forgot to ship it and remembered when i called them

I got it pretty quickly chris. Under a week, I beleive. ...But it doesn't matter, I'm the king of ordering parts and storing them for months (or even years) before installing them. My garage rafters are stuffed with un-installed parts.

That's good. I wish I was that way. I'm so bad that I'll order something, store it for so many months that something better comes out and I end up buying the new product (and store it of course - lol). I can't tell you how many things I bought for my '96, never installed them and are now null and void due to my '99 purchase (ex. front/rear '97/'99 bumper covers).

My pleasure.
LatinMax never answered me. Can anyone confirm that the power steering pulley is smaller than stock? Can anyone who has installed it say if they noticed any change (good or bad) in the steering?
I looked at the instructions again and they say to use the stock length PS belt so I imagine it isn't underdriven that much.

found it.
i have a couple of ?s though
The stock is 6.5 and the 2.87 pulley overspins the blower a little.
With a UDP (5.25) and a 2.62 pulley the impeller speed is 44935.59.
wouldnt this give a respectable amount of boost.
I am fully aware of the less contact area, but playing devil's advocate.

A UR rep told me few months ago that instead of underdriving the alternator it underdrives the power steering. He also said something like atleast 70% of any 'gain' in power comes from the lightweight aspect. The rest from the size. So both pulleys should peform similar. The alt belt is same size as stock, the ps belt that UR recommends is the same as the ps belt for the smaller pulley which is slightly smaller then stock.
