intercooler size

Im probably walkin down a beaten path here... but does the size of the intercooler actually matter? Obviously you want something that fits under the bumper ..... but what would the benefits be of running say a 24x12x3 compared to a 24x6x3? and if its the bigger the better...does it come to a point where you would be over doing it?

vs

intercoolers are rated in the amount of air they can eficiantly cool

so lets just say the 24x6 will effectivly cool about 300hp worth of air but above that HP level it will stop cooling the air at max efficiently

the 24x12 would probobly be good to cool 600 or so HP efficiantly

ok, i see what you are sayin. So if i was running about 300 hp, would the 24x12 be too big....in effect loosing power?

you wouldnt really loose power but it might create slightly more lag because the turbo would have to fill the larger intercooler but you probobly wouldnt notice

if you can fit the bigger one do it because you never know if you want more power

The tallest you can have and not have to cut your bumper support at all would be 6", and even then you have to think carefully about the placement of the outlets on the end tanks. i30tmiked used a 24x6 and still had to cut his bumper support some because the endtank outlets were such that it required cutting the bumper support so that the piping he already had would match up.
