what are your goals. stock internals can hold 500whp if tuned properly. If you are looking to lower compression for a s/c, then you will lose both performance and gas mileage efficiency.

I would suggest talking with a specialist before you try anything. You have to do a lot of your own research on this subject. Only a precious few have even attempted it (three people come to mind and two no longer are on this board.) If you think that this board will give you a quick solution, then you're wrong.

Autozone is a good place to start. I just picked up my 600hp rods and pistons there.

Say what you want, I got those when I got high flow head, and turbo crane cams.

so what else are you planning, or do you plan to just slap some pistons in and expect to have a bulletproof motor?

I wasn't giving you a smart @ss comment.

you said that you wanted to know asap, so doesnt that mean that you were looking for a quick solution. most people who post things like that really haven't done their research and just ask questions real quick without thinking what you need and how much things cost.

as in talking to a specialist: Have you contacted a rep from eagle, pauter, arp?

Thats what I was saying. not to go to some stupid import shop. 90% of those people just want top sell you their little ricey accessories or do a half @ss job of installing bolt ons. Its hard to find a good one that you can trust.

You might want to consider running a hybrid with a little lower compression pistons that are stock sized. unless you are thinking of making a strict drag car, something like that can suffice.

I'm really trying to help, but it is very beneficial to do your own research.

ouch. I would try google.com then if that doesn't work, pay $20 to be able to use the search function here. And look how many damn times this has been asked.

Contact JE, Arias, etc. Most of the quality piston manufactures will make you custom pistons to your specs.

Stupid questions often deserve stupid answers.

You could also buy one of these: VQ30DET Swap the lower compression pistons out and call it a day.

i dont understand? why are you putting pistons in? might as well put in a stronger crank, stud the bottom end, and re-do the heads because you must plan on putting over 500hp to the ground. if you are not putting 500hp down then leave the engine alone. lower compression pistons will actually make your car slower! if you really want lower compression pistons you will probaly need something custom...maybe try wiseco and give them the specs...i am sure they can make you some.

Crank? The VQ crank is good for like 1000 hp.

Yup VQ crank is pretty stout heck most of the motor is stout from the get go but that crank is pretty overworked

I imagine the vq 300z would have the same internals wouldnt it? I never got around researching it though. But if so, wouldnt it be possible to just switch out NA parts for boosted stock internals?

The 300zx has the VG30 engine and there is no sharing of VQ and VG internal parts.

Even if you did find pistons, that isnt where you start. You dump money into the bottom end (the reciprocating). i.e. block (die grinding all raised casting marks), crank (billet turned or forged, then align bored and sized with proper undersized bearings), ARP cap studs, enlarging and chamfering oil passages... The list goes on. You build a motor that can handle what you are doing. Then you get hypereutic pistons and size the rings in the cylinder so they are squared and grind them taking into consideration expansion clearences.

Good luck getting these things. Then when its all done, you have to figure out how to keep traction on that FWD car.
up to it?
