Boosted timing?

I am working on tuning my car as some of you know and I was wondering for reference what some of you are running for timing nad where you start pulling timing out? Right now I am running 22 degrees advanced stock was in the 34ish range. I just feel that I really need to add some timing back and wondered if any of you have logged your timing?

thanx

You are pulling 12 degrees across the board? WOW. At 10psi I'm pulling 2* from idle to 5000rpm and then adding back 1 degree per 1000rpm to redline.

Might be a bit different for you since you don't make peak boost til redline, etc, but 12* is way too much imho.

How are you going to add timing back? You can't advance timing past whatever your ECU is programmed to use with emanage. So I assume TS still has your ECU and will be adding it back for you? Or are you saying you have the emanage pulled back 12* right now and want to add some back (actually reduce the retard) with it.

.75-1 degree per lb of boost is a good referance I have heard from several qualified people. With a turbo car you can actually add some back in after peak torque/boost, but with a SC that sees peak boost at redline I probably would not. Actually, with the type of SC available to maxima's I would probably not pull any till 4-5 psi since the torque is fairly low below that point. 12 degrees across the board is way too much.

The way i see it is you are fine with stock timming up until 10psi on supercharger setups. After that is where you can get yourself into a heap of trouble. But since you are running a intercooler it is not quite as dangerous. I would pull one degree of timming for every pound of boost after 9psi. So if you were running 12psi you will have pulled 3* of timming at 12psi. I may be wrong but after doing my own research(which could be pretty dangerous ) this is the method i am using on my car since i am running water/alcohol injection.

Does anyone have any opinions on this?

You mean .75-1 degree after a certain boost level I assume. For instance someone only boosting 7psi would sure as heck not want to pull 7 degrees. But yeah .75-1 degree after a certain boost pressure is not a bad way to do it.

i agree on pulling 1 degree per # after 9 or 10lbs but this varis with the setup if you have any form of charge cooling

12 across is just wasting alot of power

I agree

Crewcheif, didn't you put down 325whp with that timming map? If so i would not be suprised to see you hit 350-360whp with a good agressive timming map and a 12:1 afr.

I put down on a 95 degree 99.9% humidity 317hp at 10psi intercooled, I make 12 on the street. Godspeed said on a more mild day I would have 20 hp more so 337hp.

On my stock 97 ECU We were seeing 43 degrees and high 35+ on up and I detenated on the dyno @ 5500. When driving the car around town I could not even attempt more than half throttle or the car would detonate (audibly). So we pulled 15 or so degrees across the entire map that yielded 22degrees once we re-dynoyed a week later and the car put down only 301hp. I wasn't happy with that and he added 2-3 degrees and it made the 317hp I stated above.

I am happy with the car! Don't get me wrong Godspeed/TechnoSquare has done great work so far. However, I can tell that I am missing that VQ torque from idle up to 5psi and from there it pulls very hard. The car just feels like its missing that intial ummpffff before I make boost, And I am sure I could add some timing up top as well!

SO.... If some of you supercharged guys could log timing maps @ certain rpms I would love that data so I can get with Technoquare/Godspeed later this summer (as I wanna enjoy the car a lil'bit)to continue getting not only my car tuned better, but to give others boosted guys an ECU option other than JWT.

I bet Stephen Max has some timing data logged from his JWT ECU
