Believe me -- I think it's a crime that they had to get rid of the RB26DETT. But they had a very, very good reason to, and it wasn't that the engine wasn't current -- if that were the case, then they would have had to ditch the R34, and in fact they ended up still using the R34 but with a VQ. Look:

And look here: http://northwestnissans.com/photopos...sort=1&cat=523

Look at where the engine is in that pic. The old RB motor used to run most of the length of the engine bay. You can see that the VQ is MUCH smaller, so it can be mounted waaay far back in the chassis. It also weighs MUCH less than the RB, which required the engineers to place ballast weights in their car to keep it race-legal, but they could put that wherever they wanted. Result: better weight distribution to the Nth degree. The car wasn't remotely as nose-heavy any more. Steering response and handling went through the roof, with no power compromises.

That's why they switched to the VQ.

I'm gonna need to see a dyno sheet for this one

You're trying to tell me a 2.0L NA 4-cylinder making that much power isn't peaky?

VQ series has been around for 10 years now here in the states, and its development for the last 8 years has been Ypipes and few CAIs. Differences between the 3.5L and 3.0L are very small to call it a all new motor. There are NEO VVL variants of the SR motor that push between 190-210HP on the SR16VE and SR20VE motors, and then you got a SR20VET which makes 280ps and has been dynoed in a Sentra to put down 314WHP bone stock. Should I give the VET 13 years of development too to see what it will put out ? Judging from all the warranty claims filled with Nissan, VQ35DE and QR25DE account for more engine failures and expenssive parts failures than any other engine they produced. Look at all the oil burning problems people have, is that supposed to be normal ? Normal on a 3.0L Vulcan Ford motor, but not on a Nissan engine. 3.5L engine might be a fine motor, but its got alot of flaws, and you will never see me owning one. 500WHP Turbocharged will cost me around 8K dollars to keep it intact and runing on a VQ35DE (look at 350Zs), I can do 500WHP on a SR for almost half that cost and it will be reliable.

Wow, this thread is getting ghey and needs to get locked IMO. This thread has turned into a online equivalent of a bar fight.

I'm not under the impression that it would "bolt right up." That's why I asked what kind of custom fabrication and mounting needed to be done to get it to work.

for the simple fact that i started this thread to answer one question. and that question has been answered. and many people have taken this thread in a completely different direction an started comparing the two motors to see which is superior. not to say that i haven't learned a lot from these people, but that was not my intent when starting this thread.

One of the major flaws in the 3.5 is the weak rod bolt design. That can be easily fixed with the ARP's. Almost everything is an improvement over the 3.0. This isn't just my opinion either, this is per Nissan technical documents. Care to elaborate on all these flaws??..........
