Pretty sure, I've checked it many times, I know it's connected to but I'll check into it more.
Why do you think it would be a pending code and idle fine, if it's open/shorted?

Diagnostic Trouble Code 0201 indicates a problem with the ignition coil and power transistor. The ignition signal from the Engine Control Module is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns on and off the ignition coil primary circuit. This on-off operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.
The malfunction is detected when the ignition signal in the primary circuit is not entered during engine cranking or running.
The items to check include
- Harness or connectors (the ignition primary circuit is open or shorted.)
- Power transistor unit built into ignition coil
- Condenser
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF) circuit
I dont understand how you can get the code if you only TAP the sensor. Your sure it its wired properly?

It might be messing with the signal so the ECU throws a fault. I dont think it is really misfireing so that is why it idles fine. I know mine would idle fine when I had the CRANK REF and CAM codes. It is just teh signal got a lil wierd and ECU threw a fault code out.
Dandy, do you get any codes when you tap the sensors?

Kevlo - That's exactly what I'm thinking...it's not the REF, since I'm only tapping the POS. I believe, which is VERY very bad news, that it is because I'm using the tach or ignition input for the UE to drive the coils, ie it's not as precise as the crank signal causing a "misfire".
Dandy - I'm thinking in the center console or under the passenger seat. Depends on when/if I figure out a way to rig up a "switch" to switch between the sets of maps.

I had that happen and I know why, it's because the default settings, ie number of injectors, firing order, etc. are different.
I even had a no MAF code when I tried the 2JZ. Haha.

Hmm. Interesting. Maybe it's something with the 4th gen ECU vs the 5th gen?
Yes, in addition to the software setting, I noticed the ignition method still works even if JP15 is set to 1-2, ie-normal (tach rpm).

Dandy,
Once it cools off, I'm going to start trying all the other crank types to see if maybe one of them works.
Have you tried this? http://www.planet-supra.de/software/EMUEditor/
I did for the NS_1 and NS_3 with the VQ30DET and didn't work. However, I'm wondering if it possible another applications crank REF type could work?

I played around with that program a little bit but haven't tried any crank types outside of the Nissan family. I don't know many of the other manufacturers' engines well enough to know what their crank angle signals look like. I've heard Nissan is pretty unique in that regard but hey if you happen to stumble on one that works...

Isn't your JP15 on 1-2? Or do you have it open?

Cool...I'm just trying to figure out if there is something simple causing my CEL or if it really is my wiring and or length of wiring causing interference.
The code is definitely intermittent, which has me thinking interference or UE not playing nice.
You have:
JP7 = 1-2
JP8 = 1-2
JP15 = 1-2
....correct??

Oh ok - lol (not at you just at your comment about keeping it private). Well maybe during the week we can talk if you wish. I downloaded that Trillian program that's supposed to do AIM and Yahoo, MSN etc just have to install it. Or you can PM me or email if you wish... dvrditar @ hotmail . com (w/o the spaces).

So when does Greddy plan to update the next firmware? Someone ask them what car the N-10 ECU pinout is for. - All I know is that it is a VQ pin out(4th gen style) But I want to know which VQXX
#160
No, I ran out of steam and car started running pretty bad.
I removed my piggyback harness, ie went back to stock and no misfire code yet.
I was kind of hoping a fried ignition coil was the cause, but I'm pretty sure this is the UE not being able to accurately fire the coils from just the ignition pulses or tach input.
