Header Install

Well I figured I would post here since alot of you boosted guys have a good idea about headers even if you dont have them on your car even.

The place that I got my 3" put in, Meineki, very good place, nice guys, and they dont mind doing things for pretty cheap. My 3" custom job was about a $150-$175 install. Alot of weding and install the full 3".

Well my main question is that I stopped in there today for a price on header install. I would like to get shorty headers, ebay, but their computers say is a 5.4 hour job for the rear and 4 hour job for the front ????? $600 ???? This is from a place that does me a really good deal on everything. Now he did tell me if his guy breezes through the install then he'll cut me a huge deal on the labor, but i dont wanna be stuck with a huge bill. These guys are really straight forward.

Any ideas ??

Front can be done in 30 minutes, rear can take awhile. IF you done it more than once it can be done in under 2 hours.

I really don't know but I got my headers installed for $175, with about 5hrs of labor. But that will never happend again since the shop close down on back in Nov. 05'........

Just keep looking around and btw, shorty style headers aren't the way to go if you seeking real power.

Here's the thing. If you have small hands or the engine out of the car, then its not really a huge problem. Dave Sz and I helped Mike get the rears out of his car. The EGR is the biggest PITA in the world. Don't forget that you have to take off the upper IM and a bunch of other stuff to access it.

If you had enough time, you could do it yourself. Just get a good set of gloves and an extra set of hands.

The labor hours are correct. I looked it up when I was working at Firestone and was doing my Cattman headers. The rears are not easy to do. It took to solid afternoons to remove mine and put the stockers back in.

the only headers worth getting are hotshot or cattman.

Not with the cattman, and I don't think with the hotshot either

if you order headers from cattman or hotshot they will come with everything needed up too the cat.

If you use the stock style Y pipe then it is not worth getting headers. Our stock Exhaust manifolds flow well enough, but it is only through making the tubes longer that we will get more power.

ahhh, I would rather have 2.5" header/y combo than just a 3" y-pipe alone.

oh sorry, no. i missed that part.
their pipes are equal length and have some serious bends unlike the regular crappy y pipes. the primaries are longer and smoother, which makes the extra power. they only bolt up to their y pipe.

the factory manifolds probably flow the same or better than the shortys.

its even hard to say if your 3" will fit on the shortys. some have had major fittment issuse, while others have been fine.

Just keep what you got matty. I really don't think the shorties would help that much

I kinda thought he should leave the headers alone. I'm getting my 3 inch y pipe but was confused with the header situation. Stock headers + 2.5" y pipe < Stock headers with 3" y pipe? is this difference significant? I'm going with a 3" cutout after the 3" y pipe.

I have headers and a 3" cuttout and imo it is the probably the most superior exhaust setup for flow, but hey i am biased
