2nd Dynomax 3" Bad Again !!!

Well i got my 3" in 3" out Dynomax super turbo muffler in December. About 2 weeks later it developed a Buzz in cold weather conditions. about 2400 rpms and it would dissapear. It got worse and worse then started doing it once it warmed up. I then called dynomax, they sent me a new muffler and $50 labor fees to get it installed under the safe and sound garentee.

Put this muffler on 1/11/06 and havent really be driving me car, probably 500 miles since then, and its buzzing again. What a PITA..

Now I need to choise another muffler. NO way im putting another dynomax muffler on the car.

I was thinking the Apexi World Sport 3" ???

Sucks about your dynomax, I'll know to avoid those when I'm putting my 3" together.

They make an Apex'i WS 3" muffler for our car? Or do you mean just a non-vehicle specific muffler not including the bent section that goes over the rear axle?

Maganflow has always been pretty good for me. They do the same straight through design that Dynomax does but I've never had any issues like that. Might give one of those a try.

it won't look like that, it will look like a fart can muffler. An apexi 3 inch can.

No the N1 is a round fart can. The Apexi WS is an oval type muffler. Am I correct ??

it wouldn't be any worse or better than a dynomax straight through. mine drones at about 2200 rpm but since i cruise at 2500-2800 i have no annoying droning while cruising at all.

The WS was a very quiet exhaust on my old prelude, Im sure it would sound great on your car and keep the tone down.

I HATE Magnaflow mufflers, way to loud for me. I would look for any long 3" inlet muffler. The longer it is, the quieter it will be. Sucks the Dynomax didnt work out, I just got mine installed and its nice and quiet.

I have a magnaflow muffler with a HUGE resonator and it is still a bit loud. Sounds OK but could be quieter. If you want to have yoru cake and eat it too buy a Stromung muffler. They are NOT cheap but they are awesome quality and have the best sound of any muffler I have heard to date.

Dont have any probs out of my Dynamax Super Turbo either its been on since a few days after christmas. The only thing is I could use a bigger resonator to quiet it down a bit .

To me its quiet and I like it... it sounds great, but it starts buzzing at about 2200 rpms. I absolutely know its the muffler because it didnt do it right after the swap to the new one. It takes a few weeks to devlop the symptoms

Matty, I never understood why you never went the VES route? It is cheaper and much better than going a full 3" back. And it sounds and IS completely stock until you start getting into boost and it sounds like open headers.

My Dynomax has developed a raspy sound as well. I don't know if I'd call it a buzz or not.

Think you could get a sound clip matt?

I'll try to get one here on my end.....

Not sure how to do sound clips. It does it really bad on cold mornings

I ordered an Apex-i World Sport 3" Muffler.

Hmmm...mine doesn't seem to be temp dependant. I just know it's really raspy from 2200-5000 when accellerating.

Not raspy or drony at all when cruising.

Let me know how that works out for ya - I may be switching mufflers soon and be continuing to have damned near the exact same mods as you....

I need your opinion on your 6 Puck Clutchnet/Race PP ??
How do you like it ??
Does it chatter at all ??
Is it still "ON/OFF" like it used to be when you first installed it.

My cars going under the knife in a few weeks. Complete DEK Motor Swap. New Clutch, Nissan Alternator, Shorty Headers, ES Motor Mounts, Griffen Radiator (maybe)

whoa.....seriously oging under the knife....

I like my CLutchnet. after about 2k miles of driving it completely stopped chattering.

I only let a couple of people drive my car, and when they do they are not used to how quickly it engages - but I'm used to it. Never chatters, never slips......

I had the same problem with a dynomax turbo muffler.

started around 3k. by the time i trashed it at 12k miles, i poked around inside and you could feel the baffle's edges move. Probably just a tack weld in the center, and then comrpession fit to the rest of the muffler body. n:

I'll concur about magnaflow being a bit droney too.

Both before i was boosted, and after... i had completely equal length headers (or primaries and secondaries once feeding a turbo.) and went through great pains to make it so. i had a 22" magnaflow rezzy n/a and an 18" when turbo. both droned, though at a low enough ropm (2800-3100) to not bother me, since mx6's are geared a bit lower, resulting in cruise speeds higher in the rpm band.

I've since changed to a dynomax bullet muffler in place of a resonator.. and the drone more or less went away (same muffler hung off the end)

this new setup (also 3", downpipe back).. sans the turbo muffler.. consists of the dynomax bullet in the center, a 3" high flow cat, and a hooker/holley aero chamber hung off the rear. i couldn't be happier.. and it passes the mom/gf test. my goals were quiet quiet quiet under daily driving conditions... this setup is, but will still bark nicely wheni get on it. no buzz, and if there is drone when WOT, i can't tell.. I'll be better able to comment once i plumb the wastegate back into the main exhaust (currently external dump through a atv muffler)
