What Spark blowout looks like on a Dyno.

Already re-gapped and the car feels way better up top.
(lesson learned - don't use those cheap $0.99 gapping tools).

Will re-dyno in a couple of weeks and should beat these numbers handily.

What did you have them gapped at? Couldnt you feel it when driving? The dyno seems like you would.
Nice numbers though.

I felt like there wasn't as much power as there should have been when driving but it wasn't bucking or anything.

On the Dyno it was very obvious. Probably due to the extra load from the Dyno.

The plug tool said I gapped to .032
Turns out I was really gapped around .045

Got a better tool and regapped to .032 and now I can feel a hell of a lot more torque up top.
We shall see the true numbers next Dyno.

Hmmm, the dyno graph made me think that on the top end you would feel like a bit of hesitation coming and going.
Thats a big difference in gap size, was it one of those round autozone gappers? Whats the new one look like,...the gapper.

Cheap round 99 cent malleable gapping tool.
Kinda like this one but not even name brand. Usually found at the front of the parts store next to the counter.

The new one looks like a screwdriver. Much more accurate.

Iansw,

Are you sure the spark plugs werent just warn a bit and therfore your gap would be a tad bit larger then what you set it at originally.

I gap all my plugs to .34 ???

I use this:

Well anyway this thread wasn't intended to be about what tools people use. More just about what spark blowout looks like on a Dyno Graph so that people can identify it.

But it's all useful info.

Gap your plugs to 0.028'' and verify with a feeler gauge.

If that doesn't fix it, then you might have valve float.

The very first sentence of this thread says:
"Already re-gapped and the car feels way better up top."

Please re-read the thread. I already am sure it is spark and not valve float and I already fixed it before I even posted this thread.

Is the sparkplug blow out the cause of the dip in the AFR at the uppper RPMs or are those your normal levels? I am thinking the unburnt fuel could show up rich like that.

I purposely am richening it up top - safety first.

I don't really know what my LM-1 was showing - wasn't looking at it - probably should have been.

It's showing no spikes now I can tell you.

I just buy the plugs without the -11 (ex: BKR6E instead of BKR6E-11). They come pregapped to .030 and I've found it's easier to widen a gap than it is to close it.

Is the thread loop type gapper better or worse than the (fold out pocket knife style) gapper? I've never seen the screwdriver type gapper.

Thanks!

I'm sure a new Dyno will prove my car pulls even more....but unfortunately I dinged a curb pretty hard yesteday and have 2 bent rims....

I know a place that can fix them but since I have to have 18's to drive due to the 300z BBK - I have no spare rims. So no Dyno this weekend probably - maybe next weekend if the rims get fixed in time.

(Thanks god I have my wife's Jetta to drive)

How in the world did you bend up two of those rims on a curb?
