Not sure if it was you, but the last B15 I remember dynoing w/ a 3.5L, one point that was brought up in the thread was that the coolant temps were @ 210ºF.

Well if that line is eliminated, which most likely will be, the 3.0 and the 3.5 thermostats are exactly the same bolt pattern to the motor, but are they the same tempurature setting ??
I only ask because the way the 3.5 thermostat is contsructed from Nissan, you cant modify it cause the shaft goes all the way out to the bend and therfore unable to modify it and make it closer to the motor. Kind of a hard to explain without seeing it.

I just checked the 02 FSM, it opens at 180F, as does the 3.0.

Doesn't surprise me.. hot day.. hardly any air blowing over the radiator from being at a standstill.. 210 isn't hard to believe..

But, that really shouldn't have anything to do with the oil cooler.. if anything, the water temp should be lower without the oil cooler in place.

I don't doubt you've seen any ill effects, as it would be difficult to prove anything without monitoring the oil temp. But everyone should be aware the cold oil is just as bad as hot oil. So it isn't all about keeping the oil cool as much as keeping the temperature stable. The 170-185* VQ35 thermostats are most likely the ideal temperature for the recommended 5w-30 motor oil.

So will it hurt to be removed? Most likely not, especially since the VQ30 runs just fine without the thing. But I personally would choose to keep it. I've always liked the idea of having the oil temperature rise quicker from a cold start. If that is really how it works out in the real world.
Yeah.. we had to decide on what to do with it.. I rigged up a oil drain plug with a thermocouple for a autometer oil temp gauge, so that I could easily swap it over from vehicle to vehicle without drilling into the pan/motor. I took oil temp samples on a VQ30 that we had here... and then took oil temp samples on a VQ35 with/without the oil cooler.. I noticed only slight variations (around 5-10 degrees F) depending on engine load. I hammered on a VQ35 without the cooler for about 30 minutes.. and noticed a 20 degree rise in temps.. HOWEVER.. after beating on the VQ35 WITH the oil cooler for the same period of time.. the temp increase was almost identical at around 18 degrees.

My thinking is the same as yours.. maybe this oil "cooler", is actually an oil "warmer" to help the oil get to it's working temperature much faster..? Maybe it has a lot less to do with actually cooling the oil..

Perfect. Looks like there is NO way to use the 3.5 thermo housing do to that long shaft on the 3.5 thermostat.

Matty have you considered what some of the 3.2L acura guys have used from comptech? Comptech is now out of business or is going out of business so all I could find was this picture http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DG
It basically has a long tube so the actual S/C is mounted on the driver's side eliminating some of the issues involved with clearance on the 3.5L FWD cars. It appears to be more of a roots style blower if my memory serves me correctly. Any thoughts in using a S/C from a car that came equipped with them i.e. GTP, 3.8L T-bird, Cobra anything that could be fabricated to work and cost effective?
Just a thought oh and I'm in.

The SC you're talking about, and the SC matty's thinking about are different. Centrifugal vs roots type. You knew that. Good idea, but there is less work re: mattys idea since it's almost the same from FWD VQ35 -->VQ30, and of course we all know there are already V1 equipped A32/33's .

Screw the T-trim. I would go straight for the YSi.

The TSi is a larger case and may not even fit...

The T-Trim is a very nice upgrade

The YS and YSi fit on the standard S-Trim bracket. But yes the blower is physically larger.

Plus, it can't really be driven with an inadequate 6 rib belt. It requires an 8 rib or a cog.

not to mention that they are race only and i wouldnt drive with one on the street.

PS: it might fit on the bracket, but the YS and YSi may not fit within the given space (dont know how much bigger it is)

I think us 3.5 peeps should try to get someone to manufacture a front or rear mount turbo kit and give up on the whole supercharger dream.

At one of the local car meets I was admiring a custom turbo setup on a Spec-V. So happen the shop that built the car was out there and we spoke a little bit about a custom turbo setup for my car. After speaking with him he didn't seem to have any hangups about doing it. I mentioned engine/fuel management and he said some things that I can't remember verbatum but he described what they had to do with the Spec V.

Now I know a QR25 and VQ35 are 2 totally different beasts and we talked about that.

To make a long story short I'm getting a price on a custom turbo manifold.
