Boosted Block Tear Down.
Boosted Block Tear Down.
Shadow if many of you remember him.

He has/had (not sure if he sold it yet) a booster 4th gen auto, with custom paint job, and alot of other beauties.
If memory serves he blew his first motor on the dyno, I believe he said cylinder 5 went out on him. He was kind enough to give me this motor. I recently stripped the motor down to the block and was looking at the pistons and found a interesting discovery.

Cylinder 1

Cylinder 3

Cylinder 5
Just wanted to share pics of his blown motor. I can not recall how much boost he was running at the time of the dyno. Maybe he'll jump in on this thread.

I emaild Jeff and told him about the thread but he don't have accesss to the forums at his job and works long hour so he emailed me so stuff that might help you. here is what he sent me.
That motor had about 104k mi. on it. It was supercharged running 8 psi (3.33 pulley) from 70k-94k mi. With the standard Stillen fuel system, Vortech FMU and pump. That's when I think most of the damage occured. After I pulled the blower off, one of the cylinders only showed 165psi on the compression test.
Then it was turbocharged at 7psi from 97k-104k. 370cc injectors, Cartech FMU, emanage. That was when we made 301whp at 7psi. We did all the 1/4 mile runs on that setup, about 20 of them in all, and about 40 dyno pulls. Toward the end of that summer, we dynoed it again and it only made 280whp, without changes. We thought maybe it was just the heat so thought nothing of it. Then I stopped driving it for the winter, and took it into the shop to have the 660cc injectors put in and turned up the boost to 9 psi. On the very first dyno run, it started smoking really bad out of the breather. And it did the same thing the 2nd pull, and power was way down, 250whp at 9psi. Then on the 3rd pull, oil started misting from the breather and we shut it all down. After that, I drove it around not boosting for about 1000 miles, and then we pulled the motor. hope this helps.

thanks for the additional information euromaxima, that gives a better insight to the history of the motor. The motor has been under a lot of pressure (no pun) during the latter part of its life. Cylinder 2,4,6 pistons appeared fine and still in workable condition.
Block and crank are in good shape, cylinder walls also.

Looks familiar. I ripped my block apart a few months ago and looked about the same, but only cyl 5.
Mine was from my shifting linkage breaking and I hit 1st instead of 3rd when racing on the track....car bounced of rev limiter for a few secs till I put the clutch in. After the next race, it started knocking a bit. after ripping it all apart, found that it actually ran lean in that cylinder.
Not sure if that's what happened to yours or not.
