Oil restrictor

Whoever has a turbo vq30dek, (about 6-8psi) did you have to install an oil restrictor? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks.

its not about the motor or the amount of boost. Its about the turbo you use. The oil seals inside a turbo are not meant to seal with the direct oil pressure from the engine (which can go into the high 90s PSI in the high rpms). Thats why you need a restrictor.

As far as what to use, search on google. There's people that use an actual restrictor that can be bought off ebay, other people actually use a nitrous jet of similar size as a restrictor (I forgot the exact size of the jet, but Im sure you can find out if you google).

Good Luck

I have seen a few like you mentioned, I also read that generally you only need them for -4an lines would you agree? I might get one when I order my lines just so I have it, run the turbo for a couple days and see if its leaking or smoking due to oil leaking through the seals. Then add the restrictor. I also read that generally only ball bearing turbos need them, if you have a journal bearing turbo and its smoking, the seals are bad, it wouldnt be due to overpressure. Any input? BTW thanks for the original answer.

applies to both BB and journal bearing. The turbo that I have is a T04b journal bearing (its not installed on my car as of yet). The guy I bought it off of (also a Maxima) told me (more like ORDERED me) to use a restrictor with it. He had nasty smoking when he'd floor it when he first installed it because he did not have the restrictor on.

I just made a post about this last night. It was in reply to James' post about oil lines. I also talked about oil restrictors; thought you might find the info useful.

or you can get a nitrous jet like 95blkmax said, and put it into a fitting that will go on ur turbos inlet, you drill the jet to w/e size u want. most commonly iv seen online a 1/16 size hole being used as a restrictor for t4, t3/t4, etc...

This is an "Oil inlet restrictor for all T3, T3/T4, T04, T72 etc."
