Sign up for 95-99 3" Cattman Catback

This thread sort of branches off of an earlier, long (time and length) thread on 3" Maxima catbacks that was more about the 00-03 version.

There's some demand for a 3" catback for the 95-99 Maxima, but I'm not sure there's enough. A number of people have written to the earlier thread about it, so I'm starting a fresh thread to discuss and get commitments for a 3" Cattman catback for the 95-99 Maxima ONLY. If you're seriously interested, reply to this thread.

This system would use 16 ga stainless steel tubing, s/s resonator, muffler and tip, and 3/8" carbon plate flanges. Probably would use an 18" resonator, very adequate for turbo or supercharged applications (very different exhaust sound characteristics than normally-aspirated motors).

I'll note that we already have 2.75" FastCats (catalytic convertors), which would be an ideal transition size between a 2.5" y-pipe outlet and the 3" catback.

I'll get a quick count to see if there are really enough people, then lay out a proposal for making the part. Two things we'll need to begin the development process are a vehicle for fitment purposes in OC, SoCal (in return for a discount) and at least 10 orders backed up with non-refundable $250 deposits.

Obviously the deposits would be refunded if we didn't receive the minimum # of orders, or if the project wasn't completed for some reason; we'd probably want to put a time limit on both (accumulaton of orders, and project completion). Other than that, it's just a matter of trust; obviously Cattman Performance has ben around for a while (almost 10 years!) and we seem to have a reasonably good reputation. If you don't know us, ask around.

Collecting deposits isn't the way we usually do business, but that's the only way to offset the risk of developing parts with an uncertain demand. [Our recently successful Quaife differential deal was a similar situation.] I don't want to repeat our experience with the 3" catbacks for the 00-03 Max - there seemed to be a lot of interest so we invested in the development, but there wasn't enough demand to do a production run.

Anyway, to kick things off, please reply with any comments. We'll see how the numbers add up and go from there.

How much are we looking at in terms of a ball park deposit and final price? I understand the trust factor but that is not the issue for me rather the the waiting time and the ultimate price.

Sorry, didn't mean to seem mysterious about that. I can say the deposit would be $250 because that will be "roughly" one-third of the price. I'm guessing at a retail price since the development process hasn't begun, but it would likely fall in the $700-$750 range. Whatever the retail price needs to be, this first batch would be a group deal with a bit lower price.

In any case, we would make all of this definite before we asked anyone to send a deposit. Just so I'm clear, NO DEPOSITS YET! I want to do an informal count of thread responses before going to the next step.

It's about time. This custom 3" exhaust of mine sounds like crap. I'm down for this.

What did you have in mind? Feel free to PM me with details. I may be interested, and as you know, I'm only 1 hour away from your exhaust fabricator.

I currently have your Gen 3 headers, fastcat, and catback.
So, it transitions like this, correct? 2.5"-->2.75"-->2.75"
Sorry, I forget what the dimensions are.

Idealy, I would like a fastcat that transitions from your Gen 3 headers to the 3" catback w/o any abrupt jogs/non-continuity on either end.

James,

What you have now is probably 2.5" - 2.5" - 2.5", I can't recall how long ago you bought you FastCat. Recently we changed the way we add length and flanges to the cat body, and opened that up a little, so its 2.75", which of course would be ideal, as 2.5" - 2.75" - 3.0" if we do the 3" catback version (need to see more interest).

All those #s sound good, but in all honesty, I think it wouldn't matter if the cat was 2.5" or 3" either - as long as the diameter is either staying the same or getting bigger.

Any chance in definitely getting a 3 inch fastcat? I have 3 inch piping right up to the cat and definitely don't want to decrease. Is it me or are we at 8 people?

I currently have the 1st gen Cattman headers, would the 2.75 fastcat bolt up to the flanges on the headers and the 3" catback with no issues?

+1...I have the XS Power header/y-pipe combo. Im pretty sure the fast-cat would bolt right up, but just want to make sure.

10 people have said they're interested, two asked questions without committing. I'd like to see about 5 more before we move to the next phase, which would be asking for deposits. 10 people saying they're interested never equals 10 people putting money into the deal, so we need to see more interested parties - I don't want to take several deposits and have to return them because we didn't meet the minimum number for the deal.

Sign me up, $$ in pocket

For supercharged apps, I will probably cut the part in the y-pipe where the pipes connect, and replace it will 3" piping, the pipes from the headers dont need to be 3". and I believe RT has a 3" cat.
