So I've grown tired of being N/A...

...and since I had some extra cash floating around I bought a 5th gen V2 Kit. Well, I also got it for one heck of a price. Anyways just thought I'd post my little 'intro to the world of forced induction' thread, if you will. I'm planning on sending back the blower to Vortech to have them rebuild it which I'm sure it needs. In the meantime I plan on trying to find out what I need to put this on my 4th gen. Any tips or advice will be much appreciated!

Get a picture of all the parts that came with the kit. You may be missing some parts and therefore we can help you decide what else you need.

Maybe a V1 Convertion Kit

Here are most of the parts I got. I still need to go back and get the oil feed line. I also know I need to get the charge pipes for a 4th gen since I got the 5th gen charge pipes. Can anyone else spot right off what I might need?

I got a Blitz BOV which is still mounted to the 5th gen piping. I wanted to upgrade to the 3" charge pipe and since I haven't been able to find a flange for the Blitz BOV I was also thinking about going with the Tial 50mm instead. Any suggestions on that?

Also how much do you sell the bolt kit for?

EDIT: Nevermind I just saw your post about the bolt kit.

I'm thinking about it. The plate wasn't too hard to pull of once I had the right tools. I'm thinking I can probably get her done. I'm just trying to get all the parts I need and the charger rebuilt before I decide for sure. I'll have to wait until end of the week since I'm moving on Tuesday and Wednesday.

uncdood, just get the conversion kit from matty. SCin a car should be done properly, not something u wanna go cheap with. starting with a strong foundation is what i believe in. get matty's v1 conversion which eliminates the use of tensioner pulley bracket.. where did you order the charge pipe? blitz bov is ok but i would have gotten HKS SSQV or perhaps a Greddy. afterall, one of the biggest joys in a boost setup is the sound of the BOV

I'm thinking about doing the conversion kit but I'd like to get the blower rebuilt first. I ordered my 3" charge pipe from atpturbo.com. I'm going to stick with the Blitz BOV for now. I've done some reading on the SSQV and everything I read said it caused compressor surge.

yeah do the V1. i might also not use the 3" charge pipe i have and rather make a new one.

anyone has any input on using the bottom link as a source of pipes to fabricate a new 3" charge. i wish i could have a 2 piece charge pipe, that'd be bom

I was under the impression that these BOV's were not good for a supercharge setup. I forgot the terminology but something about the boosted air going back into the blower is not good for the blower.

yep, everything I've read about them here in the boosted section gave reviews of compressor surge. I don't recall reading anything negative about the GReddy Type RS.

You should have a BOV. Without it you will get compressor surge(ie. the pressurized air pushing back through the compressor). The issue with centrifical superchargers is that the BOV you choose must be able to vent at idle. Unlike a turbo, a centrifical supercharger makes boost at idle since the blower can't spool down enough to go into vacuum(since it is spun by the crank). I know Blitz and Greddy type RS can. I could be wrong here but I heard the Greddy must be modified to do so??

Wrong, the HKS SSQV is not a good BOV for SC cars. The Blitz BOV will perform much better. Its actually a pretty good BOV for low to mid boost. But since your more into the sound of the BOV rather then its performance im sure you wouldnt like it.

Yeah, the HKS SSQV sucks big time for SC applications..at least centrifugal types anyway. I had it on my Maxima for a month or so before I removed it and sold it. It did not blow off, whistle or make any sound except a foooom sound. And it had major compressor surge to boot. Now, on my TT Supra, it's awesome, sounds nice, and does its job like it should.

HKS SSQV: good for turbo, bad for SC

The GReddy ones I have heard have a high pitched whistle. Very Fast and Furious sort of sound. Not my personal favorite, but your choice.

The TiAl 50mm, or the Vortech ones are probably best for bigger boost, but the Blitz or others are still pretty good for lower amounts.

It will work fine, but if you care about noise then listen to the different sounds they make.

the RS does not make that high pitch sound. It moves alot more air then the type S.

I wouldnt use that for upgrading the charge pipe. You will have lots of wasted piping (unless doing a IC or relocated charge pipe) and those couplers are crappy rubber ones.
Go with a real multi ply silicone coupler and some nice T clamps.

^^+1. Just piece it together with silcone couplers, T clamps and piping from intakehoses.com. This has been covered many times. I still can't believe you haven't donated yet VIP, you'd be able to search and find out so much stuff!! Do it!

I was also a big fan of sound over performance and I had the stock BOV (Blitz) on my V2 kit and it was pretty loud. As long as there are no air leaks, I think you will be happy with the sound, just expect more push rather than birds chirping sound.

My Blitz wasnt that loud at all, not compared to other BOVs Ive heard. It was just a low whooshing sound. The Tial I have now, now thats loud. Even when its venting. When it actually releases high boost its really loud. Some times too loud.

That was before I had headers. I need make a new vid with the headers and the cutout open.

Just dug this up, this is what the Blitz sounded like when I had it.
