If you are not reading up on www.my350z.com, you should. Tons of info on built motors and tons of vendors. Good luck.

All I can say is be patient. I found a set of Brand New Eagle Rods and Arias Pistons for $900 from a member. A lot of guys on that forum buy parts for builds and don't end up going thru with it. To be honest, I hope you are getting pistons as well for your build. If you are stuck between making a choice between pistons and rods, get the pistons. The rods are strong enough for the power you want achieve because you shouldn't be going for more than 450 whp. Reason being is its a FWD car. Anything past that is pretty useless for the street. And you definitely need a great EMS. Also search, in the same forum for that. Talk to "Jime" on this forum about the UTEC engine management system. They go for about $600 - $700 used and is a great tuning system. Another resource is ebay. Check this out:

Good luck in your build.....

I'd go the opposite way. The rods are more of a weak point than the pistons, IMO.

I would go pistons to lower the compression. You know that the stock rods are more the capable of handling the power output that the person may be trying to achieve.

If the question is "which of the two is more likely to fail?" the answer is the rods, easily; the stock compression ratio notwithstanding.

Here's a link to Z1 Performance.

http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ne&prodid=1538

The owner is Adam. He seems to be one of the most knowledgeable and level headed of the vendors I've read about in the 350z forums.

+1 on the 350z classifieds. Lots of goodies for good prices.

utec works on the 5.5th gens?

I heard a member got it to work with their 6th gen but figured 5.5th for good EMS are pretty much limited to the EU, (excluding standalones).

I already have my mind set on a choice of pistons. i will be going low compression. (8.8.1)
^^^^from Z-1auto.com
Just wanted to see what you guys think about the rods.
"MDeezy, Diymaximakid, and myself are taking our time with this build. both top and bottom end will be fully built.
Im purchasing a Utech EMS along with a harness that is made for the 5.5th gen thanks to another "org" member. Im lookin to achieve around or should i say close to 500whp. thats it. i will not go any higher. lol

Not sure to be honest. I thought it was done on an Altima which is why I thought it could be done on a 5.5 gen....

02 - 04 Altima = Same software package as 02 - 03 Maxima
05+ Altima = Same software package as 04+ Maxima

04+ Maxima Software = identical to 350z (non HR) software package

Jime got it (UTEC) to work on his A33B ECU (5.5 gen ECU / software). It takes some wiring, but it can work. For the 6th gen guys(04+ Maxima) it is PLUG N PLAY, no wiring needed.

Ive seen some videos of it driving, it really doesnt look like its at 430 at the wheels. For the most part a majority(not all) of the posters from the nyc area with a built car dont like to share their info on their build or anything except possibly though pm. Apparently keeping stuff secret is a big deal over there even though after one or two pulls on the street most people are gonna know what you have anyways but w/e. Or you will hear allot from "my boy" but not the person who owns or built the car. But try PM's.

The altima you are probably talking about is the show car.

yea...up in new york the racing scene is crazy. when people find out what u have done to the car....if they cant afford it, they'll try and take it.
born n raised...i should know.

you wouldnt happen to have a link to those videos would you?

I apologize, that is incorrect.

I should have clarified; basically, the ECU’s (Z33 & A34) are interchangeable (connectors are the same).

No, A34’s have A33B CVTC maps.
