About that time of year.
About that time of year.
Well the winter is comming up and this is the best time to build things. Well i am going to change my entire setup this year to something a little faster. I am open to ideas from all of the turbo people in the maxima world.
This year i plan to go deep into the 11's so motor and turbo are being upgraded. The turbo's i am looking at all have thier weak and strong point so i am kinda torn between them.
Now first off we have the GT35R, great turbo but very costly and may be the limiting factor in my setup. I have looked at the GT45 also and this seems to be a great turbo but on the large side. If i do go with the GT45 i will definately have to change my feedpipe setup to shorten spool. If anyone has any input please feel free to drop your input.

The GT45 seems excessive for your goals. What boost level were you going to run on either of these turbos and what sort of power are you shooting for? What kind of feed pipe setup do you have now?
Just throwing it out there, but maybe a de-k swap and meth injection. Not sure if you are still running the safc but the emanage can open up some power with the injector and timing harnesses. I think a t60 is good flow, just looking at the charts you would get another 100cfm from the gt35 at 14.7 psi. IMO it wouldn't be worth it at that price, if you are going to redo everything and want a faster spool, just go to a front feed design. Exhaust wise add a cutout also. Other than that I would do a built engine. Did you win the lotto by chance?
Nah im going with a vq35 and i am looking to make as much power as i can harness. My feedpipe if you will shall be very short . It will be the closest thing to a manifold setup that you can get. All in all i am trying to do something that hasnt been done in a max and that is to hit 10's. Many have been close but no one has seen it thru. No i didnt hit the lotto.
Really? 10's? You're going to need a roll cage probably and maybe a built motor to handle the power necessary to get into the 10's. Then again, nobody has really pushed the VQ30DE into the 10's power-wise so I guess we really don't know what it's capable of handling. But why am I rambling on...GO FOR IT
Well, im really looking forward to this build, and i wish you the best of luck.
You are going to need a big turbo. Your also going to need to build that motor to handle that type of power, and build a suspension setup with some FAT rubber to harness that power and put it to the ground, Oh and a transmission thats capable of handling that. Remember breaking into 10's you'll need a cage, battery kill switch, proper harness and obivously a helmet. You may also need some sort of fuel shut off, im not too sure on that one.
I think the GT45 series is too big, The Larger GT40 series may even be a little to big, the GT42R is capable of 1000HP if you go with the 1.22A/R. What kinda power are you looking to put down, like 5-600WHP? I think a GT35 should be able to do that. Maybe even a GT3582? IIRC you can get them with a 1.06AR in the back that claim to be capable of ~700HP.
If your going for a cheaper turbo. How about a Holset HX40? Im not sure what they are capable of, but i know the HX35's are capable of almost 400whp area.
Those turbos are pricey, your lookin at atleast 1500 new. What do you plan on doing in terms of internals on the 3.5 if you go that route? How aboout the tranny?

I have a couple trannies since i am going to need them. As far as motor i am looking into low compression pistons and new rods. Thats about it for the motor build. I am working out the cage issue with a friend to make it dd friendly. I was looking into the Holset hx40 or even the bullseye hx40 hybrid. They seem stout and the dsm guys swear by them. If all goes well i will purchase a gear set since i know i am going to need them but if not my spares will have to do.
im am open to ideas too. i have a 89SE i am building. its been stripped. im thinking stock pistons and compression, jwt cams, port and polish, larger injectors and fuel pump, and i have no idea what turbo to buy. im looking to put down 350whp plus. also what kinda tuning options do i have?

Bullseye power, stainless steel front and back housing.. extended tip technology....Hot turbo... If you got the money bullseye all the way...
good option:
I would look into the T67 (same as Gt37 $1600)which you can get for $1100 from Atp. Journal bearing, very cheap to rebuild when needed compared to ball bearing... good up to 750 hp.. The T67 has a few housing options from .63 to 1.00 A/R. Plus you can get a T4 turbine housing... You can also go ballbearing later... But I am a fan of Hybrids for the fast spool up and cost.
I'm frightened....sounds like an amazing setup
Are you worried about traction?
I've heard people say that 400whp makes 1st and 2nd basically useless in maxima's because of the FWD, what do you guys do about that?

Slicks my friend. I still spin them but they arent as bad as street tires.
